I mean, I feel like I’m in the minority but i’ve never seen why his name needs to be different from Jon?? Rhaegar’s bff was named Jon and it’s a Stark name and there have been Targaryens with all sorts of names. I mean, there was a DUNCAN TARGARYEN. Jon’s hardly a stretch. (i have a LOT of feelings about this sorry)
true, when i first read the books i figured he was named after either jon arryn or jon connington but everyone else seemed to think he was named something else - which he may or may not be (i don't really trust d&d on whether jon is or isn't his real name). either way i will take any name that isn't aegon, i think i'd actually like it better if his name remained as jon and not anything else (and you're fine, i've got a lot of feelings about this too)

yeah i think Oberyn definitely did and yeah i mean like why on earth would you chose the one name that's already taken by one of rhaegar's son. like everyone had pretty much assumed jaeherys or something like that, which actually makes sense. like how the fuck would ned have even gotten the name jon out of aegon
not to mention that now lyanna's last words make no sense
like, "his name is aegon. promise me, ned."
