NOIR CITY Returns to Bay Area! The NOIR CITY film festival returns this Thursday, March 24-Sunday 27, 2022 for an incisive and inspiring four-day festival at Oakland's historic Grand Lake Theatre. Produced, programmed and hosted by FNF president Eddie Muller, this year's edition, subtitled "They Tried to Warn Us!", showcases 12 movies from mid-20th-century Hollywood sure to resonate with contemporary viewers. Included are shockingly prescient films focusing on megalomaniacal politicians, corrupt businessmen, neo-Nazis, racism, anti-Semitism, sexual predators, serial killers, police brutality—even a viral epidemic! This NOIR CITY program could not be more timely or topical.
Weeknight shows will be presented as double bills, with one $15 admission price for two movies. Saturday and Sunday shows will have separate admissions ($12.50) for each screening. NOIR CITY Passports (all-access passes) granting admission to all 12 films are available for $100.✽Proof of vaccination required. Masks recommended.
The full schedule, Passports (all-access passes), individual tickets, and program notes are available at NoirCity.com. Passports are non-transferable. All sales are final. Patrons must arrive 30 minutes before showtime to be guaranteed a seat!

ASK EDDIE returns this Thursday, December 30, 7:00 PM PT on our Facebook page.
FNF prez Eddie Muller responds to film noir fan questions fielded by the Foundation's Director of Communications Anne Hockens. In this edition, we begin with NOIR CITY festival news and Eddie gives his long take on the new NIGHTMARE ALLEY. Then we discuss the noir credentials of THE LAST OF SHELIA, GORK PARK and espionage films in general, SUNSET BOULEVARD and other “Hollywood is Hell” films, and early Giallo, as well as the connection between Raymond Chandler and Ian Fleming. We finish up by revisiting the question of smoking in film noir. On the cat front, Emily takes her sister Charlotte’s place and sleeps through most of the episode.
Can’t make it on Thursday? No problem, a recording will be up the next day on our YouTube channel.
For your calendars — our next episode will stream on Thursday, January 13, 7:00 pm PT on our Facebook page and will be on YouTube on Friday, January 14. Want your question answered? We solicit questions from our email subscribers in our monthly newsletters. Sign up for free at https://www.filmnoirfoundation.org/signup.html
It was 3:00am. The streets were deserted. The fog was as thick as the plot of a Raymond Chandler novel. I was missing something important. I hadn’t attended Noir City since 2019. A bad case o…
The communal experience of pure escape you get at a movie theater in the company of other people is not replaceable.
"Seeing a movie in a public theater on a giant screen, surrounded by other people, is not only entertainment. It is an experience, a communal activity, a night out of the house almost everyone can afford."
