❝ What gave it away? My eyes being open, or the whole not snoring thing? ❞ The prince’s words hold no bite, despite his flat facial expression and how lazily he lolls his head towards the other male; zaffre eyes are shadowed in the absence of light, appearing even darker as he throws his gaze over his shoulder and away from the flickering of the campfire. Interest is there, but it is dulled against the exhaustion that has settled into his very bones—-the sort of tired that does not allow rest, even as it aches behind open eyes and tense muscles. ❝ What about you? ❞ Despite not expecting anyone else to be awake, he can’t say he isn’t fond of the company, as it was getting difficult to ignore his situation when the silence bore down thickly with very little mercy. No rest for the wicked, or something like that. ❝ Is this a ‘misery loves company’ situation, or did the light from the fire wake you up? ❞
Sasuke said nothing at first for he saw no point in responding. He wasn’t a particularly talkative person, spoke only when he had reason to. Besides, these eyes reminded him of someone, as did the mockery. For some reason, Sasuke saw blond hair instead of black and an orange jumpsuit where, actually, the prince sported a shirt and trousers. The realization caused him to blink blankly, then he pushed the thoughts away.
Once the moment passed he sat down at the fire, not quite to Noctis’ opposite, yet not within close proximity. He was awake for he hardly ever slept well. He’d grown used to the nightmares and the lack of rest accompanying them. Over the years it had become a natural occurrence for him to look up at the night sky but, for now, the fire would do just as well.
“I’m often awake at night,” he admitted casually as he positioned himself. He rested his elbows on top of his thighs, his hands dangled loosely. “Whether or not you interpret that as misery-- I don’t care either way.”
