Beth had been back for the whole entirely of a day and while she was fairly sure her feelings for Noah were gone, after all, what was a crush anyway, right? But there was still something inside of her that made her scared of seeing her neighbor again, which got her picking at her nail polish while staring at the cars passing by. She really did miss little Lola and the other two rascals, but Beth didn’t feel comfortable knocking on Noah’s door to ask to see them. She didn’t feel like it was her place.
She was about to go back into her house when she heard little yaps and the familiar puppy walk by with her two other siblings tied to a dog-walker’s wrist. There was a smile on Beth’s face, even more as the puppy yapped at her again, with prompted her up and towards the dogs. She introduced herself as she crouched down to pet Lola, really happy to see the little one again, and explained how she used to dogsit them as she was--well... still is--Noah’s neighbor. Not meaning to get the man walking with them into any trouble, she walked with him to Noah’s place and rang the doorbell, in hopes he’d let her play with his dogs for a bit. He’d probably be home by now, as far as she could remember.
Beth smiled a little when he came to the door, offering a small, awkward wave to him. Maybe she shouldn’t have left him that poem---it would’ve made things less uncomfortable for her. “Hi... I may or may not have come with your dog walker, and I know this is probably a weird request, and you can totally say no, but would it be okay if I hung out with Lola for a bit? I really did miss her.”
