Whumptober day 2 alt prompt- No holds barred beat down
Mikey’s fists. Mikey’s fists against Takemichi’s face. Skin against skin against pavement. All of Takemichi’s senses were overtaken by the man on top of him, the man who was knocking his head into the sidewalk over and over again.
His nose, which was surely broken, spewed blood in ways Takemichi had never known it could do. After all the beatings he had taken before, all the times he had been slapped and pummeled and thrown into walls, none would ever compare to the work of the Invincible Mikey.
Takemichi’s tears weren’t solely born from the pain of the assault. His body’s ability to recover was impressive, but he knew his mind would lag in its healing.
Mikey’s eyes met his without a hint of recognition, only a cold pool of hatred. Takemichi wasn’t sure which bones were being cracked and which had already been fractured. All of his pain blurred together along with his vision, rendering him blind. He was unsure if he would survive. Even if he did, he was almost certain he wouldn’t walk away unscathed.
Mikey’s voice was almost comforting. Even as he spat profanities at the younger boy, Takemichi couldn’t help but think about the times they spent together. Talking about Shinichiro, bothering Draken, fighting together. He didn’t know how things had gotten so bad, but he knew it would never go back to the way things were.
Someone, multiple someone’s, was peeling Mikey off of him, but he was too out of it to thank them. There was too much blood for Takemichi to tell if it was his or Mikey’s or some unlucky bystanders. The pain had swelled throughout his entire body, making it easy to forget what it was like to not hurt.
He woke up in a hospital, the smell more familiar than it should’ve been. Warm hands clutched his arm, sweaty and soft.
“Partner?” A careful voice whispered.
“Chifuyu,” Takemichi tried to move his hands, to reach his friend, but he couldn’t.
“Don’t move,” Chifuyu pressed the back of his hand against Takemichi’s head. “He messed you up really bad.”
“Mhm,” Takemichi hummed, too tired to argue.
“Hina just left,” Chifuyu fiddled with the necklace around Takemichi’s neck. “She was waiting for you to wake up. So was Draken.”
Takemichi breathed, the apparatus over his mouth and nose making it easier.
“You had as all worried, man,” Chifuyu couldn’t squeeze the other boy's hand, too afraid to hurt him worse than he always was.
A small, selfish part of Takemichi was glad. He felt cared for in a way he hadn’t since he was too young to walk. Knowing that so many people were worried about him, and cared about him enough to stress over his health, made it a little easier for him to fall back asleep. He knew that someone would be by his side when he woke up.
