Why can't I just garden, cook, paint and read instead of having to write papers to get a stupid degree?

Why did I choose to write my paper about ragtime?  I don’t even like ragtime.  I just thought it would be easy to find information, especially since I’m writing it on the guy who is literally referred to as “the king of ragtime.”  There is literally hardly anything about him outside of his musical achievements.  I can’t write an entire 3 page paper in 11 point font about this guy’s musical achievements because there isn’t enough info.  I might could get by if it were in 12 point font, but noooooo my professor wants 11.  Fuck.
