Okay, folks, try to imagine Madeline at the throttle of one of four famous Van Sweringen 2-8-4 Berkshires to have run in the preservation era. This particular 2-8-4 Berkshire is number 765 from the New York, Chicago, & St. Louis Railroad, better known as the “Nickel Plate Road” or its reporting mark, “NKP.” Some of you may be questioning my sanity here, but I think this is actually quite reasonable. Then again, she could be at the throttle of NKP 2-8-2 Mikado 587 with yours truly at the throttle of the 765 with both engines on a doubleheader excursion.
