Dark gray clouds had started to eat away at the sky even before they’d all made their way into the forest, and now a steady stream of rain was falling down past the canopy of leaves and turning the dirt beneath their feet to mud. The thick smell of decaying foliage coated the inside of Thalra’s mouth and she made a quiet, disgusted noise as she took a sip from her canteen in an attempt to wash it away. “How far away did Grungle say this place was?” she asked the rest of the group. It was strange to be walking with them, two people she barely knew, with Nil also by her side. It had been difficult enough convincing him to take a bounty with her, much less to do it with two strangers. But for all that she didn’t know about Gilmar and Lavender, she didn’t think either posed a threat to them. “He said it was an abandoned barn, right? What’s a barn even doing all the way out here?”
