TO NIKULÁS MIKAELSØN. FROM MARGARET GILBERT. 25TH OF MAY, 1814.
@nikleus, i wish i could say i’m happy, but i’m not. uncle john says i’m to remain in the nursery until he sees fit for releasing scores of frogs in the ballroom last sunday. he says i lack discipline, so i bit him. now i’m in even more trouble. i can still practice my penmenship, because ladies are supposed to do that, and that’s why i am writing to you to save me. elena sneaks me lemon cakes and jeremy promises to teach me fencing--even if uncle john says it isn’t proper--but i long for chaos. tell nadia i’m sorry i could not play with her and hope. that is the part i regret, not the part where i bit uncle john, because he’s boring. sincerely, margaret mikaelson gilbert
