So, I’ve written about Mighty Steps before, on Sprudge, but I wanted to add it to the HT Report, too.

There’s just something about the vibe that I like.

Also, the ice cream and coffee combination is killer in the warmer weather. Heck, even in the cold.

So the first time I went, I sat and sipped at coffee, and leafed through magazines. I chatted with the baristas – the couches made it easy to talk, but the flow of customers meant no awkward pauses. Just waves of talk, silence, and music.

I liked that.

The second time I went, I met the owner, Yasuo Ishii. He told me how his love for wine flowed into coffee, and how Arise Coffee Roasters really deepened his knowledge of specialty. He told me he wanted coffee in the neighborhood to be an anytime drink: something to be enjoyed any time of day. He told me Nihonbashi is one of his favorite places, and that opening here meant doing what he loved, where he loved.

He wouldn’t, unfortunately, tell me where sourced the ice-cream.

But win some, lose some, I guess.

Tucked away down a quiet backstreet, Mighty Steps has carved out a little corner of the coffee community – from the regulars that stop by at the coffee-to-go window, to the pretty girls in need of a coffee before a hair appointment at the salon upstairs. 

And people like me, who simply like ice cream, coffee, good vibes, and all of those things at once.
