Youâve had a much better day the next time you run into him, though you do, literally, run into him.
âFuck! Iâm so- oh,â you say, blinking up at the whites of the domino mask. âHi.â
Amused, he tilts his head to the side and looks at you. âHi. No wannabe mugger to threaten with a knitting needle today?â
âNope,â you say, and then frown. You ran into him. Thatâs not right.
You take a step back, and a gasp is slipping past your lips.
Caught, he decides not to fake it anymore, and begins wobbling on his feet. More like swaying like a tree in the breeze.
âCan you walk? Should I call an ambulance? I- what the fuck!?â
He huffs, immediately shaking his head at the mention of an ambulance, and you mutter something about stupid stubborn vigilantes under your breath, tucking yourself under his shoulder on the side that isnât currently leaking blood into the fabric of his suit, and try and take some of his weight as you hobble the short distance from the mouth of an alleyway â different to the first one you met in â to your apartment building.
Gary the security guard, bless his soul, does not look up from his trashy magazine as you chirp a hello and drag Nightwing to the elevator, only lifting a hand in greeting as you jab the button for your floor.
Youâve got the vigilante sat at your little round dining table, on your knees on the linoleum floor as you use your best scissors to cut at the Kevlar-reinforced fabric around his ribs. To your credit, it only takes a little bit of hacking to get the fabric out of the way.
Nightwing is looking at you intently as he slumps in your dining chair. (Well, you think he is. He might be passed out behind the domino mask, but heâs sat up enough that you think heâs conscious.)
He doesnât flinch as you clean the gash with alcohol wipes from your cheap first aid kit, but he does breathe out the softest âprettyâ that makes you freeze.
âHuh?â
âYâre pretty,â he slurs, and youâre freaking the fuck out.
âOh my god, I think youâve lost a lot of blood,â you babble, abandoning the alcohol wipes for a clean wad of gauze, pressing it to the wound to try and staunch the flow of blood, your mind racing. Of course your brain decided the only reason Nightwing is calling you pretty is because he must be one pint of blood away from meeting the Grim Reaper. âIs there- what do I do? Can I call someone? You said no ambulance, I-â
You freeze again, because Nightwing is pressing a tiny little black something into your ear.
âNightwing, do you read? Hello? Are you alive?â
âHeâs- heâs in my kitchen,â you say to the strange female voice, trying not to pass out, your hands shaking with adrenaline where they push gauze into his wound.
ââŠyou must be knitting needle girl,â she says, and you would fall flat on your ass if you werenât already knelt on the ground in front of him.
âWhat!?â
Strange female voice in your ear huffs a laugh, and says âExplain to me the injury. Iâll walk you through what to do, and if you need to get him to a hospital. Donât let him argue with you if I tell you to take him.â
Youâre nodding, even though she canât see, and forty-five minutes later, Nightwing is asleep on your couch, wound clean and covered with gauze and medical tape.
Oracle, as youâd learnt, is laughing softly in your ear as you have a crisis on your kitchen floor.
âKnitting needle girl!?â You whisper-shriek, head in your hands. âHe called me âprettyâ, Oracle. This canât be happening to me. This canât be my life.â
âHe called you pretty when he told me about the first time you met, if that helps.â
You think about the alley, the shit day, the mugger and the knitting needle and the rain, and you scream into a throw pillow, Oracle laughing so loudly in your ear it almost sounds like sheâs in the room with you.
âOkay, I need- I need to call my friend,â you mutter, and Oracle only hums as you pull the little black comm-piece out of your ear, scrambling across the floor to your bag where youâd dumped it at your front door, fishing through it for your phone.
Your friend, as always, picks up on the third ring.
âNightwing is asleep on my couch,â you hiss, and thereâs a moment of silence so long that you pull the phone away from your ear to check she hasnât hung up on you.
She hasnât, as evidenced by the sudden raucous laughter filtering through your speakers.
âIâm not kidding,â you whine, and she stops laughing immediately.
âWhat?â
âI ran into him in the alley by my place and he was hurt and he said no ambulance and so I brought him inside and then he was bleeding everywhere and he called me pretty and then Oracle was talking me through patching him up and now heâs asleep on my couch and he called me pretty-â you say, the words falling out of you in a spectacular fountain of verbal diarrhoea. Your friend, to her credit, does not waver.
âWell. At least heâs not bleeding out anymore,â she says, and you groan, your head thunking against your front door, phone pressed to your ear. âAnd he called you pretty. I fail to see the issue.â
You can hear the smirk in her voice, and if you could throttle someone through the phone, you would. You open your mouth to hiss something scathing down the line, when the object of your crisis groans and shifts on your couch.
âOh fuck, heâs waking up.â
Your friend just cackles and hangs up on you. Bitch.
You get a text from her a second later, that reads; âdeep breaths. itâs fine.â
Followed by; âwait, when is the next time youâre seeing dick?â

dick grayson x reader fluff, non sexual showering, language, suggestive
The steam from the shower wafted around you, creating a fog that you couldnât see through. With closed eyes and your head tipped back, you let the hot water cascade down your tired body, making you let out a soothing sigh.
âHi,â you heard Dick say. He peeked his head through the shower curtain next and looked at your blurred figure.
âHi?â You replied, opening one eye to look at the shit eating grin on his face.
âCan I join you?â He asked with a smile he reserved for when he was trying to seduce you.
âSure,â you replied and backed away a bit, making room for him.
He pulled the shower curtain back, revealing his already naked body like he wouldnât have cared if you said no or maybe he just knew you too well and had known you wouldnât turn him down.
His sweet grin turned into a full blown yelp the second he stepped under the shower. He jumped back and almost hit his head on the wall, making you let out a laugh.
âWhat the fuck!â He bellowed.
âWhat?â
âYou practicing for going to hell or something?â He questioned. âThe water is fucking boiling.â
âDonât be dramatic its fine,â you rolled your eyes.
âTurn it down,â he said, firmly.
âNo, you can leave,â you offered.
âIâm already wet I donât want to leave please turn it down just a bit angel, youâre literally red right now,â he coaxed.
âFine,â you huffed and turned the shower knob to the right to make the water a bit cooler.
âThank you,â Dick said and stepped under the spray of the water âstill wincing, and put his hands on your waist.
âGood?â You checked.
âManageable,â he grumbled, grabbing your shampoo from the shelf. âThis isnât healthy.â
âYour face isnât healthy,â you replied, sticking your tongue out at him.
âIs that why you keep sitting on it?â he smirked, earning a smack to his chest in response.
He squeezed some of the shampoo on your palm and leaned his head down, gesturing for you to rub it in his hair.
âYour hair is getting long,â you murmured, rubbing your fingers through his scalp.
âDo you want me to cut it?â he said softly, too busy moaning at the way your hands moved through his hair.
âNo I like it like this,â you replied, gripping the inky black hair in your palms.
âFreak,â he chuckled standing to his full height.
âI didnât even say anything!â You protested, closing your eyes shut when Dick began rubbing the shampoo in your hair.
You felt him kiss your forehead, each of your closed eyelids, your nose then finally your lips before he rested his head on your shoulder, letting out a soft hum.
You grabbed your lavender scented body wash âthat he loved an unhealthy amount, and began rubbing it on his back while he hummed in response and planted kisses on your shoulder and collarbone and wherever his lips could reach.
âI love when you donât have work,â he mumbled. âQuit your job.â
âSo you can be stuck to me like a koala all the time?â
âMhmm,â he let out, planting one last kiss on your jaw before straightening.
âTempting,â you smiled.
âI can offer you many services,â he almost whispered, planting kiss after kiss on the side of your throat, your collarbones and your jaw.
âIs this why you crashed my shower,â you mused, gripping his hair.
âMaybe,â he smirked, tracing his fingers down your spine.
âDick,â you whispered, your hand finding the tap behind him in an attempt to turn the water a bit warmer without him noticing.
âTell me what you want,â he said in a husky voice laced with need, continuing his attack on your neck.
âFUCK!â he screamed and jumped back again, glaring at you.
âGet back here!â You protested when you saw him get out of the shower and grab his towel to wrap around his waist.
âYouâre a demon!â He yelled.
âDick come on! Iâm sorry,â you giggled turning the shower off and wrapped a towel around your torso, following him towards the sink.
âJust for that, youâre not getting anything for a week,â he huffed.
âLike you can go that long without touching me,â you challenged.
âDonât test me,â he narrowed his eyes and turned to leave.
âWhere are you going?â You asked.
âTo get dressed?â He offered like it was the most natural thing.
âDo you not moisturise after you shower?â
âUh no?â
âYou heathen! Come back here,â you ordered and like the obedient boyfriend he was, he made his way back to you.
âIs this necessary,â he asked when he saw you pump some pink body lotion on your palm.
âYes! Hot water dries your skin,â you replied, rubbing it over his hard chest and abs.
âYou just wanna feel me up,â he smirked and looked down at you.
âI wouldnât need an excuse for that,â you replied, rubbing the lotion on his biceps. âYouâre so large, I use all that for both of my legs.â
âAre you complaining?â
âNo but-â
âThatâs what I thought,â he smiled again and took the body lotion from you, grabbing the edge of the towel to unwrap it from your body.
âMy turn.â
HES SO!!! hes so!!! SO!!!!

Turns out, messing up at work and not getting any writing or research done had its consequences.
Consequences that included you having to interview the Waynes on a zoom call on a damn weekend.
Linda hadnât been satisfied with your âworkâ at the Wayne Enterprises building and even though she didnât know the whole story about you messing up and choking on your words âshe was still mad about not getting anything worthwhile and wasting a whole work day.
So to compensate, she talked to Bruce Wayneâs assistant and he had somehow agreed to a zoom interview at 9 in the morning on a Saturday and you were annoyed.
You wanted to clean and sleep in, finally catch up to the weeks of four hour sleeps but instead you were sitting on your living room floor with your laptop propped up on the coffee table, staring at the loading screen.
The fact that it had been your fault was the only reason why you didnât protest against this. And besides you were more than content with the timing because you had to drive for almost two hours to go to Metropolis today.
Lois and Clark were hosting their engagement party with just a few close people. It was supposed to be a low-key barbecue dinner and you were extremely excited to see your old coworkers, especially Lois and Clark again.
So you freshened up and had breakfast before finding an unwrinkled shirt (seriously weekends were supposed to be for laundry how were you supposed to attend a meeting while your clothes were dirty?) and sat down on the floor still in your pajama bottoms because the screen would only show your head anyway.
Your hair was down today because you were supposed to wash it and didnât bother putting it in a bun like you usually did. It felt lighter anyway and something told you that you would need it.
Everyone was in attendance today (except for Andy because there was no need to take pictures). Bruce, Tim, Cassandra and Damian were all in one place âthe manor you were guessing. While Jason and Dick had separate screens.
Bruce was dressed in a polo shirt and it was odd to see him out of his usual formal clothing. Tim was in an oversized skater t-shirt, Damian in a hoodie and Cassandra in a black crop top. Jason was in a tank top with a coffee mug in his hands looking already bored like he would literally be anywhere else.
Dick was looking fresh. His hair looked darker than usual and with the way it fell over his forehead you were guessing he was just coming out of the shower. He was dressed in a navy blue Henley shirt. You could see the gold chain around his neck through the opening of the shirt and you decided to look anywhere but there.
As if that wasnât all, he was also wearing glasses and you would proudly admit how utterly hot you found men in glasses.
Especially men named Dick Grayson.
They were thin framed, probably just blue light glasses for the screen but they didnât have any less effect on you.
He was oddly quiet today and you had to admit you were missing his cheesy comments.
âJust to clarify Iâll ask the question submitted by âGothamitesâ now,â you clarified and flipped open the folder that held all the questions taken from the submission post you ran online.
âOkay this oneâs for Jason,â you began and Jason unmuted himself. âItâs anonymous so I canât tell who sent this but it says here theyâve been at the library a few times when you were doing volunteering work there and so they were wondering if you would ever think about hosting book clubs or just events for more people to form groups and read together, it could also bring more exposure to the library because theyâre extremely low on funds?â
âThatâs a great idea, Iâll think about it,â Jason said and you eyed him, waiting for more.
He didnât say anything and stared back at you with a confused expression.
âMore words please Jason,â Dick chimed in.
âRight,â Jason straightened up. âUh I do find it upsetting that the library has low funding and I have been trying my best to keep it afloat, Iâll talk to the staff there and see what I can do,â he finished with a grimace.
You gave him a smile and a nod before scribbling down everything.
âCan I leave now?â Jason asked.
âSure,â you giggled and watched as the pop up appeared, informing you that Jason wasnât in the meeting anymore.
âYou have a cat?â Dick spoke directly to you for what seemed like the first time today.
You looked up from your notebook and glanced at your furry companion currently sitting on the couch behind you.
âOh yeah,â you replied and patted the cat on the head. âHeâs called Meow-wing,â you giggled at your very creative name.
âMeow what?â Cassandra repeated.
âMeow-wing as in Nightwing,â you gave her a shy smile.
âNightwing?â Dick echoed.
âYes,â you shrugged.
âWhat about him?â
âNothing about him Dick, I just think heâs cool.â And heâs humble, unlike you, you added silently.
âHuh,â Dick mused while Tim cackled for some reason.
âIf youâre done inquiring about my pet, can we get back toââ
âI have a dog,â Dick announced.
âThatâs⊠niceâŠâ You replied impatiently.
âSheâs called Haley, do you wanna see her?â He beamed and pulled off his headphones before you could say no.
He leaned down, suddenly disappearing from the screen but only for a moment and returned with a grey dog in his arms. He put his headphones back on his head and waved Haleyâs paw at you.
âSay hi, Haley,â Dick urged, earning a bark from his dog in return. âGood girl,â he cooed and you swore your whole body shut down.
You grabbed your water bottle and drank a large gulp of it to compose yourself.
Honestly fuck him and his stupidly cute dog and also fuck you too for being attractive to him. For getting turned on at him saying the words âgood girlâ not even directed at you.
âSheâs cute,â you murmured.
âComing from you, I bet sheâs very flattered,â and there it is.
You fought the urge to roll your eyes.
âIf you donât mind, can we please get back to work?â you said with an apologetic smile towards Bruce to mask your impatience in case you came off as rude but you really had plans. And an everything shower before said plans, that alone would take hours.
âOh, do you have a date?â Dick asked and let go of his dog.
âNo Dick I donât have a date,â you sighed in impatience.
âWould you want to go on one?â He asked with a grin.
Your response was to mute him since you were the one who hosted the meeting.
âDid she just mute him?â Tim laughed along with Cassandra and Damian.
Even Bruceâs lips twitched as he looked down at the floor and flicked his nose with his index finger. You were considering that a win.
âAnyway,â you turned to Bruce. âYou fund Justice League and in Gotham, Batman. Do you think masked vigilantes are more capable of protecting the city, the country than our justice system?â
âI have no doubt in our justice system,â Bruce started. âBut as everyone has noticed, thereâs been a lot of misjudgment in Gotham alone which has spiked crime rates. If we can get any external help to protect the citizens of our city and if I can do anything to help with that, Iâm more than willing to,â he finished with a nod.
You wrote down everything before unmuting Dick.
âThis is a fan question,â you clarified and eyed Dick. âRosie wants to know what your type is?â You cringed.
âHmm,â Dick pretended to think. âMust be wearing glasses,â he began and your face heated up. âShould be a cat lover and a Nightwing lover. I do also have a thing for smart journalists, they really get me going.â
âThank you for your response Dick,â you said, emphasising on his name so he got what you were trying to convey.
âYou are very welcome,â he smiled. âDo you want me to elaborate more? I can tell you the eye colour and all too.â
âThat wonât be necessary,â you said through clenched teeth and muted him again.
âI think we should wrap this up here today,â Bruce said.
âSure I think Iâve got everything I needed for today, I apologise for what happened the other day and you had to attend this meeting on the weekend,â you said with a grimace, genuinely meaning it.
âDonât worry about it,â Bruce said. âIâll ask my assistant to arrange the next meeting soon, pleasure working with you,â was all Bruce said before his screen disconnected.
You heard a clatter in the background and turned around to see your cat knocking over the lamp sitting beside your bookshelf. You groaned and quickly turned around, leaping off the back of the couch to see if it was broken.
Luckily it fell on the carpet and didnât break. You bent down and grabbed your cat, giving him a disapproving look.
âBad Wing!â You chided. âDonât knock over my stuff baby you know how broke I am,â you sighed and sat him down on the counter.
It wasnât until Dickâs voice filled your living room that you realised you didnât disconnect the meeting.
âNice shorts,â Dick commented with a smirk.
You looked down at your avocado printed shorts and groaned.
âWhat is your issue?â You groaned, walking over to your laptop.
âI canât admire fashion now?â He asked in an offended tone.
âAdmire my ass,â you huffed under your breath and ended the meeting.
It was childish but so was he. He was irritating as hell and his stupid smirk was getting under your skin.
You shook your head off thoughts of Dick Grayson and began getting ready for the day.
A good few hours later you were standing in front of your closet in a towel wrapped around you as you looked for a dress appropriate for an engagement party which was also a barbecue.
It didnât narrow it down to a lot of options.
You dragged your hand through your clothes before finally stopping on a maroon dress that you had bought with Lois and hadnât had the chance to wear yet. It was a knee length spaghetti strapped chiffon dress and it would be perfect for the occasion.
You got dressed within a limited time frame and decided to forgo your usual updo today, letting your hair fall over your shoulders. The dark red lip gloss matching your dress covered your lips as you finished applying it.
You grabbed your keys and purse and shot a quick text to Lois, informing her that you were leaving before you headed downstairs to your car.
-
There were currently fifteen people in Lois and Clarkâs backyard.
You asked Lois if this was her definition of âlowk-keyâ and she just shrugged and said she only invited five people, the rest were all invited by Clark and since he was the one on barbecue duty, she didnât care.
All of your ex coworkers were delighted to see you and catch up with you. Congratulating you on the new job and the story you were doing along with some asking if you could set them up with Bruce. You laughed and shrugged it off but when another coworker mentioned something about wanting to meet Dick, your smile felt forced.
You did not like him and you would not set up your coworkers with him. It was the sole reason for the sudden unease in the pit of your stomach.
Lois and you were currently in the kitchen, sitting on the island with a wine glass in both of your hands while you spilled everything that had happened.
âAnd then he said my beauty hypnotised him! Can you believe the audacity?!â You ranted about Dick while she just took a sip of her wine and gave you a smirk.
âRight, how horrible,â Lois said. âHow dare he tell you that youâre beautiful.â
âThatâs not it. Heâs annoying, he doesnât let me work. Whenever I ask a question, heâs always the one butting his nose in even when the question isnât for him. He doesnât take me or my profession seriously and that pisses me off,â you explained.
âI think heâs just never had anyone say no to him. Heâs thinking of you as a challenge, heâll get bored soon. Donât worry about it,â Lois shrugged.
âI hope so, I canât deal with him for however long this interview is supposed to go,â you sighed. âI donât even want this like donât get me wrong I donât want to take this opportunity for granted but celebrity gossip? Really?â You huffed. âThis is not why I studied criminology, I want to write about crime and Gotham is crime central.â
âYouâll get there! And if your editor wonât allow you to write that then you can always start blog posting and freelancing,â she shrugged, giving you the perfect back up idea. âI did that a lot.â
âThatâs actually a good idea,â you hummed in recognition.
Lois opened her mouth to say something else but the doorbell ringing pulled her out of the conversation. She excused herself and went to the front door to attend whoever it was, leaving you alone in the kitchen.
You downed the rest of your wine and decided to go out in the backyard where everyone was present but when you turned around, the familiar scent of expensive pine cologne filled your senses.
When your eyes looked up and met with those ocean blue ones, you internally screamed.
âHey,â he greeted you with a toothy grin. âLois said to put this here,â he added, gesturing towards the wine bottle in his hand that probably cost more than your rent.
âWhat are you doing here?â You asked before you could stop yourself âthanks to the alcohol in your system.
He stepped closer to you, clogging your senses with his scent. His face came impossibly close as he leaned down to place the bottle of wine behind you on the counter before straightening up.
âBruce couldnât come, he sent his congratulations with me,â Dick replied with a shrug.
âWhy was Bruce invited?â
âHeâs close with Clark.â
âBruce Wayne has friends?â You scoffed.
âYouâd be surprised,â he chuckled.
âWell it was nice chatting with you, now if youâll ex-â
âYour hairâs down,â Dick pointed out.
âYes Dick, Iâm not at work Iâm allowed to let my hair down,â you teased.
âMakes you look different,â he hummed, curling his finger around a strand of your hair.
âIâll take that as a compliment,â you furrowed your brows, leaning back a bit because he was still in your vicinity.
âIt was meant to be one,â he smiled and for the first time, it seemed genuine.
âI need to get out there and help Lois, it was nice seeing you here,â you nodded your head and quickly scampered off before he could stop you again.
He quickly followed you out to the backyard soon but didnât speak to you again for the rest of the night. You sat on a patio chair with your old coworkers, chatting about something while Dick stood leaning on a tree with a soda can in his hand, talking to another one of your ex coworkers.
His attire was casual today âjust a loose button down shirt and jeans. And that damn gold chain shining each time it hit the light.
Your eyes wandered towards him while your friend kept talking about something you werenât fully paying attention to.
You looked as he smiled at the blonde in front of him while she laughed about something he said and pushed away at his chest. Dick in response held her elbow to steady her. You wondered what was so funny that she lost her footing while laughing. You had no doubts that he was flirting with her with the way he kept giving her cheeky smiles.
Lois was right, he did get bored of you soon. And you were happy about it. Delighted even.
Dick caught your eye and before you could look away, he tilted his head at you as his tongue darted out to lick his bottom lip. You shook your head when you felt your face get heated and quickly looked away.
After dinner, you gathered up the plates and empty beer bottles to help Lois out while she got busy talking to her friends. She looked so content on Clarkâs lap you didnât want to disturb her.
Just as you were throwing away the beer bottles, someone came up behind you.
You turned around to see your ex coworker who was talking to Dick earlier, standing in the doorway with a trash bag.
âLet me help you out,â she offered.
âThanks,â you smiled at her. And because you couldnât help yourself or because the wine you had was buzzing in your veins, you went on. âSaw you talking to Dick Grayson earlier.â
âYeah heâs great isnât he,â she blushed.
âHeâs something alright,â you scoffed.
âWhat do you mean?â She frowned.
âNothing,â you shrugged. âHeâs just a known flirt.â
âHe was asking me about you actually,â she said, causing you to pause what you were doing.
âWhat about me?â
âJust what you were like when we worked together, if you had someone back here, if you liked working at the Daily Planet, if you were just as disinterested in people or was he just special,â she explained.
âOh,â you swallowed.
âI think he likes you,â she teased, side eyeing you.
You scoffed in return and went back to loading the dishwasher. âHe likes everyone he can sleep with.â
âDonât be too harsh on him, you know how the media twists things,â she patted you on the back before getting out of the kitchen, leaving you all alone.
You shook your head and poured yourself a glass of water to sober up a bit in case you had drunk more than you thought and this was all a dream.
âHi,â Dickâs familiar voice filled the kitchen.
âHey,â you sighed to yourself.
âDo you want any help?â He asked.
âWhat do you know about chores? Didnât you grow up in a mansion,â you quipped and with the way he visibly looked taken aback by your response, you almost felt guilty.
âTry me,â he quickly recovered and leaned on the counter.
âIâm just about done,â you shrugged.
âYou must be close with Clark and Lois,â Dick commented, eyeing you.
âI lived here until I could afford to find my own place,â you replied. âLois is my family, sheâs helped me a lot.â
Dick nodded in response and hopped on top of the counter.
âSo no avocado shorts?â He commented, eyeing your chiffon dress.
âApparently theyâre inappropriate for a barbecue, who would have thought?â
âNot me,â he clicked his tongue. âYour ass looked great in them by the way.â
âWhat!â You sputtered out a cough and looked at him with wide eyes.
âYou told me to admire your ass,â he said in response like that made it okay.
âYou heard that?â You scrunched your nose at that.
âI hear everything that benefits me,â he grinned.
âSo very humble of you,â you rolled your eyes and mirrored his earlier actions as you sat down on the counter opposite of him.
âNever claimed to be, sweetheart.â
âMy friend told me you were asking her about me,â you murmured, eyeing him cautiously.
âJust getting to know the person whoâs doing a whole story about my family. Only fair I get to know something about you too.â
âThatâs fair,â you breathed out. âWhat do you want to know?â
âYou serious?â
âI think Iâve had enough wine to indulge you tonight so shoot.â
âWell lucky me,â he smiled. âWhy did you choose to be a magazine writer?â
âWow starting off strong,â you dramatically hissed. âI didnât choose it. I wanted to be a crime journalist but apparently getting your dream job when youâre broke is only good as a concept. This one pays well.â
Dick eyed you for a second and you decided to interrupt the silence by speaking up first.
âMy turn,â you said.
âIâm an open book baby, ask away,â he smirked.
âWhy were you really asking about me?â
âI find you interesting, is it that hard to believe?â He retorted.
âWhat about me interests you Dick? Iâm the most boring person ever. I spend my free time at home talking to my cat.â
âAnd I want to know what you talk about,â he went on.
âIs this because I didnât agree to go on a date with you? Did it really hurt your ego that bad?â You quipped before you could stop yourself.
âDid I do something wrong? Or accidentally offend you?â He asked, voice sounding serious.
âNo Dick you just,â you began but stopped yourself.
âI what?â He pressed.
âYou donât take me seriously,â you managed. âYou donât take my job seriously. I understand it must be frustrating to you to be in the media all the time but itâs not my fault. Your father arranged this interview and Iâm just doing my job so I donât get why youâre trying to make it hard for me. Youâre always there with your cheeky comments even when Iâm asking you stuff thatâs on record,â you finished, surprising yourself with how much you had to say about this.
The three day gap between the first time you saw him and today had apparently left you with a lot of time to think about him.
âI didnât know you felt that way,â Dick frowned. âIt wasnât my intention, I donât know why it came off that way.â
âMy first impression of you was you literally flirting with me three seconds after I hit you in the face. You see me as nothing more than someone you can convince to sleep with you and I donât like that.â
âI donât see you like that at all, Iâm sorry. I do respect you and your work. Iâve read all the articles youâve written online,â he said.
âYou have?â You asked. âWhy?â
âI told you, I find you interesting,â he shrugged.
âYouâve known me for a day,â you stated in a matter of fact-ly voice.
âAnd I canât wait to get to know you more,â he replied.
âYou never quit, do you?â
âNot a chance,â he grinned at you.
âWell thatâs time for me to get home,â you grunted and hopped off the counter.
âYouâve been drinking, are you sure you wanna drive?â Dick asked, mirroring your movements.
âI have to head home, I have to go to Ikea tomorrow to get a mattress. Iâve been sleeping on my couch and I canât put it off any longer,â you sighed. âIâm fine I had like two glasses.â
âIâll take you home,â Dick offered.
âNo thank you,â you quickly replied. âI donât want to see myself on the news tomorrow with preposterous headlines.â
âWeâll take your car,â he pressed.
âIâm fine,â you replied.
âNo youâve been drinking and Dick will take you home,â Clarkâs voice filled the kitchen.
âThank you,â Dick agreed.
âIâm not even drunk, do you want me to do a headstand? Because I will,â you challenged.
âNo need to do that but just to be safe. Itâs a two hour drive,â Clark added. âI donât want to hear anything else,â he said with a finality in his tone that made you shut up.
âFine,â you grumbled, handing Dick your keys. âJust so you know, if he kills me and my body is found in a ditch, itâs your fault,â you turned to Clark.
âIâve known him since he was thirteen, if he were capable of murder he would have done it by now,â Clark chuckled.
You quickly said your goodbyes and hugged Lois a bit tighter than usual because you werenât sure when you would see each other again.
Dick guided you outside with his hand hovering over your waist but he didnât touch you. He opened the car door for you and you stepped inside, giving him a look.
âAlright,â Dick sighed, buckling up his seatbelt. âWhere do you live? Other than in my head of course.â
âYou are relentless,â you rolled your eyes and connected your phone to your car before selecting âhomeâ on your GPS.
âI prefer to think of it as dedicated,â he corrected.
You didnât say anything after that, not that you could even if you tried. Because Dick put his right arm on the back of your seat and stretched his body to look backwards as he pulled the car out of the driveway. Your brain nearly short circuited at the simplest action.
His left hand spun the steering wheel so effortlessly while he kept his eyes glued to the back with so much focus. You stared at the muscles on his neck straining due to the stretch. The vein protruding and just begging for you to suck on it. It would be so easy he was so close you could just lean forward and attach your mouth on his neck andâ
âSo how far are you with the interview stuff?â He said, straightening up and driving ahead.
You quickly shook your head and looked away from him. âI think Iâll take a couple days to write out of my notes from today. Then Iâll go to the library on Monday for any archives because weâre also supposed to add a few pages about the Waynes before Bruce. Just to give the idea about your family.â
âI could always help you out,â Dick offered. âYou should add your number in there in case you need any help,â he said, handing you his phone.
âIf you promise not to bother me,â you said.
âStrictly business,â he gave you a smile and touched his free hand to his heart as if to show you how serious he was.
You took his phone from him and typed in your number before sending yourself a text so you could have his as well.
âAlthough what if I see something avocado related? Am I supposed to not send you that?â
âYes Dick youâre supposed to keep it to yourself,â you nodded in agreement.
âAnd Nightwing?â
âUghhhh,â you groaned and covered your face. âFirst of all just to clarify, itâs not like a crush okay? Not like how everyoneâs always going crazy over him. I donât want him like that because I think heâs hot,â you clarified.
âThen what?â
âHe just sort of saved me one day and I just think thatâs cool. Heâs cool,â you shrugged.
âI think he would remember you if he saved you,â Dick said.
âHe saves a thousand people in a day. I highly doubt my existence would stand out,â you scoffed. âBesides, I donât think we officially even met. Apparently Killer Croc was on the loose and the street I usually take when I go home from work was the one Killer Croc chose to take as well. It was quiet like eerily quiet. Nightwing suddenly grabbed me from behind and grappled off seconds before Killer Croc attacked. He dropped me off in a safe-ish alley where I found a little stray cat. I decided to adopt him and thatâs why heâs called Meow-wing.â
âSounds like a true gentleman,â Dick hummed.
âThe complete opposite of you,â you teased.
âAt least Iâm not the one dressing up in spandex every night jumping from rooftop to rooftop,â he scoffed.
âYou wish you looked half as good as Nightwing does in spandex,â you narrowed your eyes. âAre you jealous?â
âOf Nightwing? Please.â
âI would love to interview him some day,â you mused.
âWho? Nightwing?â
âYeah heâs just. Heâs a vigilante and heâs not like Batman. I do think he would be way easier to talk to, I have so many questions I could ask him. If only I werenât writing celebrity gossip,â you wished with a deep sigh.
âSounds like you really admire him.â
âHe does good work,â you shrugged. âWell anyway, not like thatâs ever going to happen. My writing career will always be limited to âWhat is Dick Graysonâs type in women.ââ
âYouâre my type in women,â Dick replied without missing a beat.
âI give it three days before youâre bored of me,â you snickered.
âI give it forever,â he challenged.
âSure,â you yawned. âWake me up when weâre there,â you said to him and leaned your head against the cold glass window.
Dick allowed himself a second to look at you instantly falling asleep. Your face looked so content and soft that he couldnât help the smile of fondness that appeared on his face.
On the red light, he brushed your hair away from your face and draped his jacket over you before turning the music off.
He murmured a quiet âgood nightâ before turning back to drive you two home.
likes reblogs and comments are appreciated! hope you enjoy <3
you and dick have been dating for over a year now. and during that period of time he's always seen you with your hair straightened and never wore out naturally. you didn't necessarily hate your curls, they're just⊠too hard to maintain for a busy person like you.
he's only seen photos of you wearing your curls from back then, but never in your relationship. so one lazy night where he isn't patrolling the streets of blĂŒdhaven and during your nightly shower he brings it up, âhey, baby.. why have you never worn your curls out?â âugh, it's just not easy enough to maintain. styling it has a lot of steps that i don't really have time to do.â you say without looking up from the sink. âwe can do it now.. i mean, i can help you if you want.â you raise an eyebrow before saying, âare you sure? i have the products to an actual curl routine soâŠâ he nods, âyeah, i'm totally down.â
the two of you make your way to the bathtub. he starts off by first wetting your hair with the shower head and slowly putting in the shampoo and running it through your hair. by the time you have the conditioner of your hair you've started making out⊠âso pretty, sweetheart.â he gives you one more kiss to your forehead before he rinsed the conditioner off.
the whole routine was finished but by then he's already got you bent over gripping the front of the tub as he clutched your hips to meet his. deep, long, hard strokes that coaxed tons of groans from you. you would've never thought he'd like your natural hair this much. one hand left your hip to travel to your cunt, he rubbed, pulled, slapped your poor clit so much that you didn't even last ten minutes after he did that.
eventually you do get to bed and fall asleep comfortably and very well fucked.
Summary: Reader gets caught up trying to chase a lead for their story and Nightwing comes to the rescueÂ

Asks/requests are open!! Gotham Database
The Gotham Gazette didnât give second chances. Youâd learned that your first week. By your third, you understood something worse: they didnât give first chances either, not the kind that mattered. Not the kind that put your name on a front page instead of buried under someone elseâs byline.
So when the lead came in, half-whispered, barely substantiated, passed between desks like something fragile and unwanted, you took it before anyone else could decide it wasnât worth the risk. Falcone-connected movement. Late-night shipment. East End. Sketchy enough that not one senior wanted to touch it without backup.
Perfect.
The building looked like it was trying to cave in on itself. Brick sagging. Windows blacked out. A single flickering light near a side entrance that made everything look worse instead of better.
You crouched behind a rusted dumpster across the street, camera pressed to your chest, breath shallow but controlled. Your phone stayed on silent. Your notes were already tucked away. You told yourself this was what proving yourself looked like. You told yourself you werenât shaking. A car rolled up. Then another. Men stepped out, heavy jackets, heavier posture. The kind of stillness that came from knowing they were the most dangerous thing in the room. You lifted your camera.
Click.
Click.
Zoom in, faces, hands, the exchange of a crate.
Click.
Your pulse climbed higher with every shot, adrenaline creeping in, sharpening everything. This was it. This was the story. This wasâ
A sound cut through the air. You froze. It was soft. Almost nothing. A high, sharp trill. A birdcall. You frowned slightly, lowering the camera just a fraction. Another answered from somewhere above. Lower this time. Shorter. Your stomach dropped. That wasnât random. That wasâ
A third sound. Different rhythm. Closer. Your head tilted up slowly. Rooftop. Movement. You didnât even fully process it before chaos rained down.
They didnât enter. They descended. A blur of black and blue dropped from the roof like gravity had finally decided to take sides. Another figure followed, red, heavier, more brutal in the way he landed. A third swung in from the side, precise and calculated. The fourth, smaller, faster, hit the ground already moving.
For a split second, the entire room stalled. Then everything broke.
ââWhat theââ
âBATâ!â
Too late. Nightwing hit first. Youâd heard things about him. Everyone in Gotham had. The nice one. The one who smiled. The one who talked people down. The one kids pointed at when they saw shadows on rooftops and said, that one wonât hurt you.
You watched him move, and felt something cold settle in your chest. Because there was nothing gentle about it. His escrima sticks snapped out with a sharp crack. The first goon barely got his hands up before Nightwing struck, fast, controlled, precise, but hard. The sound echoed in the room like a drumbeat.
Crackâshoulder.
Crackâribs.
Crackâknees.
Not wild. Not uncontrolled. Worse.
Intentional.
Measured.
Like he knew exactly how much force it took to drop someone without killing them, and rode that line without hesitation. Another man rushed him. Nightwing pivoted. The sticks moved again, faster this time, rhythm picking up.
It was almostâ
Your breath caught. It was almost musical. Like a drum kit. Each hit placed with terrifying accuracy, building into something fluid and relentless. The goon didnât stand a chance. None of them did. And Nightwing, he didnât stop smiling. Not wide. Not friendly. But there was something there. Something focused. Something that looked right in the middle of the violence.
Gunfire.
Red Hood answered it. Loud. Immediate. Controlled chaos as he moved through the room like a storm given form. Red Robin was already disabling weapons, pulling people down, tying fights off before they could escalate. Robin, fast, furious, took down anyone who slipped past the others with sharp, efficient strikes. But you? You couldnât look away from Nightwing.
A goon swung a pipe. Nightwing blocked it, twisted, brought his escrima stick down again, crack, and the man dropped. Another tried to run. Nightwingâs foot caught him mid-step, sending him sprawling before a final strike ended it. Clean.
Final.
Done.
Your camera hung useless in your hands. You shouldâve been taking pictures. You shouldâve been documenting everything. Instead, you were staring. Because this wasnât what people described. This wasnât the softened version of Gothamâs protectors people told themselves so they could sleep at night. This was something else entirely. Something sharper. Something real.
Nightwing paused. Just for a second. Breathing steady. Shoulders rising and falling once. Then, his head turned. Directly toward you. You froze. Completely. Your heart slammed against your ribs as his gaze locked onto yours across the room. The mask hid most of his face, but not all of it. Not the eyes. They flicked over you once, quick, assessing. Camera. Notepad. Civilian. Alive. Safe. He started walking toward you.
Your brain short-circuited. Move. You should move. You should step back, say something, do something. Your feet didnât listen. Each step he took felt louder than the entire fight had been. Measured. Calm. Controlled in a way that made everything else, the chaos, the noise, the violence, feel even more real in hindsight.
He stopped a few feet away. Close enough that you could see the faint rise and fall of his chest. Close enough to notice the small scuffs on his suit. Close enough that the adrenaline still clinging to him felt almost⊠tangible. âHey,â he said. Not sharp. Not accusing. It threw you off more than anything else. âAre you hurt?â
You blinked. Once.
Twice.
Your mouth opened, nothing came out. âIânoâI meanââ your voice caught on itself, tripping over the words. âNo, IâmâI'm fine. I think. I didnâtââ God. You sounded ridiculous.
Your grip tightened on your camera like it might anchor you to something real. âI was justâworking. I didnâtâI wasnâtââ You stopped. Because you didnât even know what you were trying to explain.
Nightwing tilted his head slightly, watching you, not in that sharp, calculating way from before, but something quieter now. Checking. Making sure. âOkay,â he said after a second. âJust⊠making sure.â
There was a pause. Your pulse hadnât slowed. If anything, it felt louder now in the silence. You swallowed. Your brain scrambled to catch up, to make sense of what youâd just seen, of him. The stories.
The rumors.
The way people talked about him like he was the safe one.
The easy one.
The one you wouldnât be afraid of if you ever ended up this close.
Your eyes flicked to the escrima sticks still in his hands. To the unconscious bodies scattered across the floor. To the memory, fresh, vivid, of the way heâd moved. Precise.
Relentless.
Unstoppable.
Your voice came out smaller than you meant it to. ââŠyouâre the nice one?â
There was a beat. Then, Nightwing blinked. And let out a short, quiet laugh. It wasnât mocking. It wasnât harsh. It was almost, surprised.
âYeah,â he said, glancing around the room for half a second before looking back at you, something a little amused tugging at his voice. âI get that a lot.â
You stared at him, something uncertain pulling at your expression. ââŠthatâs not what I expected from the nice one.â
That earned you something closer to a real smile, brief, but there. âProbably not.â
Another pause settled between you. Lighter this time. Still tense, but different. He nodded once toward your camera. âYou get what you needed?â
You looked down at it like youâd forgotten it was there. âIâyeah. I think so.â
âGood.â His tone shifted just slightly again, firmer, but not unkind. âNext time, donât do it alone.â
Next time. Like he already knew there would be one. Like he knew you werenât the type to stop. You let out a small, breathy huff that mightâve been a laugh. ââŠnoted.â
Across the room, a voice cut in, âWe need to move.â Red Hood. Impatient. Watching.Â
Nightwing stepped back. The distance returned all at once. âGet somewhere safe,â he said. Then, softer, almost like an afterthought, âAnd try to stay out of trouble.â
Before you could respond, he turned. One step.
Two
And then he was gone, the others moving with him, shadows folding back into the night like theyâd never been there at all. The silence hit differently this time. Not empty. Just⊠settling. You stood there for a long moment, staring at the space heâd been. At the aftermath. At your shaking hands.
Slowly, you lifted your camera. Checked the shots. Every frame told the same story. Violence.
Precision.
Control.
Truth.
But none of them captured the way heâd looked at you. You lowered the camera slightly, exhaling. ââŠthe nice one,â you muttered to yourself. Then, after a beat, you almost laughed.

How They Meet
It starts in the quietest corner of BlĂŒdhavenâs oldest independent bookstore, âThe Turning Page,â during a rainy Thursday night. Youâre the part-time bookseller who stays late reorganizing the fantasy section, humming while stacking new arrivals. Dick Grayson (in civilian clothes, hoodie up, still smelling faintly of rain and rooftop gravel) ducks in to escape a stakeout gone cold and ends up genuinely browsing because the store feels like a safe pocket of normal.
He reaches for the same dog-eared copy of The Name of the Wind youâre reshelving. Your fingers brush. He flashes that easy, crooked grin and says, âIf you tell me itâs better than the hype, Iâll buy twoâone for me, one for the guy who keeps stealing my copies at the station.â
You give him an honest, slightly nerdy ten-minute breakdown of why the prose is worth it, complete with zero spoilers. He listens like youâre the most interesting person in Gotham. By the time the store closes, heâs bought the book, your staff pick of the month, and asked for your number âso I can argue about the ending once I finish.â
First text from him the next night: a single voice note of him dramatically reading the opening line while perched on a gargoyle. Youâre hooked before you even realize the cute acrobat from the bookstore is also Nightwing.
Their Relationship
Dick is the human equivalent of a golden retriever who has decided your love language is âquiet nights in with books.â He keeps a permanent stack of your recommendations on his nightstand (dog-eared, highlighted, sometimes with little sticky-note arguments in the margins).
After brutal patrols heâll show up at your apartment still in the Nightwing suit under a coat, kick off his boots, and flop face-first onto your couch demanding, âRead to me. Your voice makes the bruises stop hurting.â You read aloud while he rests his head in your lap and traces idle patterns on your thigh.
He drags you into his world gently: rooftop picnics with takeout and a single book light, surprise weekend trips to used bookstores in other cities, and once a stakeout date where you both sat in a van reading by red flashlight while he monitored a warehouse.
You balance him. When the weight of being âthe best Robinâ or âthe one who holds the family togetherâ gets too heavy, you hand him a worn paperback and say, âFor the next hour the only hero you have to be is the guy who makes me laugh at chapter twelve.â He melts every single time.
Public affection is his defaultâheâll kiss your temple in the mystery aisle, spin you around when you find a first edition, and proudly introduce you as âmy favorite plot twist.â Private moments are softer: he learns your favorite tropes by heart and will recreate them in real life (think candlelit balcony, city lights, and him quoting your favorite romance line verbatim).
The only fights are playful: he keeps âborrowingâ your annotated books and writing tiny love notes in the margins. You pretend to be mad until he reads the notes out loud in the ridiculous voices he uses just for you.
The Reactions of the Batfamily
Bruce: Initially suspicious (he runs a background check before Dick even tells him your name). Once he sees how grounded and genuinely happy Dick is around you, he softens. He starts leaving first-edition classics on your doorstep with cryptic notes like âFor the civilian who keeps my son human.â High praise.
Jason: Teases Dick mercilessly (âGolden Boy traded the circus for book club, huh?â) but secretly loves that you quote Pride and Prejudice at him during family dinners. He starts leaving annotated revenge tragedies on your fire escape with Post-its that say âRed Hood approves of your taste in morally gray men.â
Tim: Does the full detective deep-dive, then shows up at your bookstore with a color-coded spreadsheet of books âstatistically proven to help with vigilante burnout.â You two bond instantly over obscure literary theory and now have a group chat titled âDickâs Emotional Support Readers.â
Damian: Acts like he couldnât care less until he catches you reading The Once and Future King and launches into a thirty-minute rant about historical inaccuracies in Arthurian legend. You counter with three better sources. He calls you âTolerableâ and lets you pet his cat. Highest honor.
Barbara: Immediately your biggest supporter. She creates a private comms channel just for the three of you so you can send each other memes about âdating a former flying Grayson.â She also slips you the Batfamily group chat password so you can watch them lose their minds in real time when Dick posts a photo of the two of you reading together.
Stephanie: Screams, hugs you, and declares you âthe best thing to happen to this disaster family since waffles.â She raids your TBR list and starts a book-swap tradition that somehow always ends with everyone arguing about character deaths at the dinner table.
Cass: Doesnât say much, but she learns your favorite bookâs cover by heart and will silently hand you a new copy when she senses youâve had a rough day. The quietest but most sincere stamp of approval.
Alfred: Bakes your favorite literary-themed treats (Earl Grey shortbread after you mention Alice in Wonderland) and tells Dick, with a completely straight face, âAt last, someone who can keep up with the boyâs dramatics using nothing but prose. Well done, Master Dick.â

The rooftop was cold, the kind of damp chill that seeped through armor seams. You crouched at the edge, purple light still fading from your knuckles. Below, three bodies in the alleyâdealers whoâd been cutting product with fentanyl and selling to middle-schoolers. Two had knives. One had already fired once tonight. You hadnât hesitated.
Footsteps behind you. Deliberate. Familiar cadence even after years.
Nightwing landed without flourish, cape settling around him like spilled ink.
âYou left them facedown in their own blood,â he said. No greeting. No accusation. Just fact.
You didnât turn. âThey stopped breathing before they could reload. Cleaner that way.â
He stepped closer, boots quiet on wet gravel. âI saw the footage. They were down. You still finished it.â
You finally looked at him. Same mask. Same jawline under it. Same eyes that used to search yours for something softer than what you ever gave.
âKids were dying,â you said. âNow theyâre not. Math checks out.â
He exhaled through his nose. âThatâs the line you draw now?â
âThatâs the line Iâve always drawn.â You stood, rolling your shoulders. The violet plating of your armor caught the sodium glow from the streetlights. âKori saves with sunlight and speeches. Komandâr conquers. I fall somewhere between. I clean up what the rules wonât touch.â
A long silence. Wind moved between you both.
âYou used to let me talk you down,â he said quietly.
âYou used to think talking was enough.â
He didnât flinch. Just watched you. âI was wrong about a few things.â
You felt the old ache start behind your ribsâthe one that never quite left after you walked out of that safehouse in Jump City and didnât look back.
âI still kill when I have to,â you told him. Flat. No apology in it. âWhen the system fails them. When mercy gets more people killed.â
âI know.â He took one step closer. Not crowding. Just enough to close some of the distance. âIâve read every report. Seen every crime scene you left behind. I know exactly what you do.â
You waited for the lecture. It didnât come.
Instead he said, âIâm not here to arrest you. Or convert you. I justââ He stopped. Restarted. âIâm tired of pretending I donât still look for your signature in every purple flare across the skyline.â
Your throat tightened. You hated that it still could.
âIâm not coming back to the team,â you said.
âIâm not asking you to.â
âThen what?â
He looked at the alley below, then back at you. âI want in on the nights you decide who walks away and who doesnât. Not to stop you. To see it. To argue when I think thereâs another move. To stand there when you make the call anyway.â
You studied him. Searched for the lie, the hidden agenda, the Bat-trained play. Found none.
âYouâll hate it,â you warned.
âProbably.â
âYouâll hate me some nights.â
âAlready tried that. Didnât stick.â
You let out a short breath that might have been a laugh if it werenât so tired. âYouâre still an idiot.â
âMaybe.â The corner of his mouth movedâjust a fraction. âBut Iâm your idiot. Unless you tell me to leave.â
The city kept breathing below you: sirens, horns, distant shouts. Ordinary violence. The kind you both knew too well.
You stepped forward until the space between you was only a breath. Close enough to feel the heat off his suit, the faint ozone-and-leather smell that used to mean home.
âI donât do second chances,â you said.
His voice dropped. âThen call this the first one weâre doing right.â
Your hand found the edge of his chest plate. His found your waistâcareful, like he expected you to bolt.
You didnât.
When you kissed him it wasnât gentle or cinematic. It was teeth and years of unsaid things and the metallic taste of the night. His fingers tightened in the seam of your armor like he was anchoring himself against the possibility youâd vanish again.
When you broke apart you both stayed close, foreheads touching, breathing the same cold air.
âIâm not promising to change,â you said against his mouth.
âIâm not asking you to stop.â His thumb brushed the corner of your jaw. âJust donât disappear again.â
You didnât answer with words.
Instead you turned your hand palm-up between you. A thin thread of violet energy curled around your fingers, then drifted across to wrap loosely around his wristânot binding, just there. Warm. Steady.
He looked down at it, then back at you.
âDeal,â he said.
You let the light fade.
Then you both turned toward the city, shoulder to shoulder, and dropped off the roof into the dark.
No promises. No grand declarations.
Just two people who still burned the same way, even if the color was different.
