"Don't die... Don't die on me. Please..." (from Katya because she is soft on him)
★ - - - Getting out had presented the Soldier with quite a challenge. Unforeseen change of events had turned the situation completely against them, and they’d been lucky they managed to escape. Not unscathed, no. One foot forward, the other one next.... breathe... he’d constantly remind himself, force himself to stay upright and continue. Every step sending jolts of pain through his system, every inhale causing lung to feel as if it’s being scorched from the inside; making it impossible to catch his breath. Slowing down and giving away her location wasn’t optional, he already knew the consequences that he was already paying for coming out here, for trying to pull through with a trade they had both been suspicious from the very start.
He’d nudged, said it would be the last one. Last one, and they can move somewhere that’s much more secure for them, and they can remove themselves from this life.
Knee gives out on him, and he’s left with no choice but to break the fall, unable to catch his balance instead. Slow hiss coming from parted and blood stained lips, a gasp following. Mixture of pain, and a desperate attempt to catch his breath. “Shit...” Voice is shaky as a palm presses against the entry wound, pressing down. Bucky knows it won’t make a difference, too much blood lost, and further damage that he can’t process in that very moment.
Vision blurs. Eyes widen, blinking, and reopening, searching for something to focus on. Cold is setting in, as quick as the blood flows, flesh and bionic hand stained of it. Jaws clench and he sits himself up, focusing on keeping himself from swaying. Whoever had taken the shot, was a rather excellent marksman. Not an instant kill, but one that would kill within a matter of minutes. The kind that’s going to let his target get to a certain distance before they collapsed from the damage created and the blood becoming uncontrollable.
Condition is quickly plummeting, and he doesn’t realize the way he reaches over. Fingers wrap around her wrist and he pulls her as close as he physically can in that moment. Actions spoke louder than words, the way he leans into her, nestled close. “You know I can’t die, Kat. Not from a bullet.” With a plethora of other damage that’d been put into the soldier before the bullet alone. Mostly, he’s trying to comfort her. And he hates how his tone gives him away, how he can’t even pull an act when it’s required the most. He doesn’t even realize how much of his body weight he’s leaning against her, more than he ever would have if he was in full control. But he feels so light, he forgets he has weight on him. Exhaustion slips in, and the lull slowly begins to tug away, cold settling so deep into his bone; they become one with the Winter Soldier.
Humorless, breathy laugh comes from him. Irony hitting, at quite literally the worst moment.
