i think it's just straight up fantasy? idk i've always sort of mentally compared it to stuff like good omens, and that's just fantasy. you don't always need to break it down into a smaller niche genre

that is HUGELY valid and its kind of relieving that i can just slap the label fantasy on it when it comes to publishing, BUT if i can figure out the sub genre i might be able to convince the english department to let me work on stuff from that universe for my senior project. they have a supposedly strict no fantasy policy for several reasons, but magical realism is okay?? and if i can make a roundabout enough argument im hoping i can wave my dumb angels and demons around and get permission to work on something im actually passionate about
