The Suspect is the 3rd book from Fiona Barton. “Two teenage girls die in a fire while on a trip to Thailand. What happened? What were they doing? Who else was there? Journalist Kate Waters is on the story…until a personal connection pulls her off. And now she is desperate to track down her son.” Like many current thrillers, this is told in dual timelines. The girl’s story leading up to the fire and Kate’s POV trying to find her son. It’s hard to find a character to like or pull for here. The story feels like it labors a bit. I thought Barton’s first book, The Widow, was okay. I really liked her 2nd book, The Child. This book is okay but the story has no surprises or unexpected twists. If you read thrillers at all you already know what’s going to happen 🤷🏼♂️ Big audiobook cast - they do a good job.
