Thoughts on nico x ethan as a ship
Saw a poll about shipping them a few months back and made me think "huh thats interesting"
hm, that is interesting...
looking past the age gap of it all (i tend to view all the pjo characters as perpetually ageless tbh, unless i can take advantage of an age gap for darkfic lol), i think the two would make a compelling pair. you have nico coming out of his potential grudge/revenge arc right as ethan is coming into the spotlight with his own grudges & intentions for revenge. they could have the opportunity to meet & collide into something sweet within the chaos, in which they have a sort of forbidden love & nico pulls ethan back towards the camp's side—or you could have the opposite, in which ethan pulls nico towards the titan's side. and perhaps percy gets killed so nico could be the child of the prophecy?? ugh, the nuance.
overall it's a twinge too angsty for like a top ship to me (for example i like the balance of valdangelo because you get nico's sort of broodiness with leo's joking side, as well as the opposite inner nuances within both characters). still, i think ethan x nico is really neat, & i'd love to see some fic and/or art for it !!

Ethan had been coming to this tatto parlor for a couple years now, he's friends with the owners' older brother, so they were always happy to see him or get him something he asks, and when his boyfriend of a couple months mentions wanting a piercing, Ethan more than happily suggests Pins and Needles. The taller of the two owners is in front, the one whose name starts with C, and he grins at Ethan. Nico shrinks a little, under the impish gaze, but a squeeze of his hand calms him down a little. Ethan has a feeling Nico's gonna need a lot of hand-squeezing today.

I picked up the book to check where I could squeeze this in and here’s what I got:
Around the same time Ethan runs back into the labyrinth on his own, Nico falls for Minos trap and goes back into the labyrinth too
they run into each other, both alone, and after so long with only the dead by his side, Nico is grateful for what he thinks is neutral company
It’s not a whole lot of time that they have, but they get talking, both being loners not by choice but circumstance, and find that they get along very well
they travel together for convenience, neither of them is keen on making a friend, but it’s still nice in a way
both of them had felt unwelcome at camp, and both of them left too, it is what they bond over
Minos is incredibly pleased by this turn of events, having now two half-bloods for his trade.
when he betrays them, it looks like Ethan is taken away against his will, Nico only finds out later - after Percy’s first confrontation with Kronos and the glorious hairbrush moment - that Ethan has joined Kronos
he never mentions it, but it hurts him a lot
