Friday at the DC Pen Show was a good deal livelier than Thursday- even a pre-show day in DC rivals any other pen show’s major public days. Talking with vendors, the universal gripe is, “It’s too big, too many vendors, I get lost in there.” That’s an upgrade from last year, when there were lions in the main ballroom.
I had to come late and leave early Friday, but I’ll run down some highlights.
Newton Pens. I gotta talk to this guy some more. It’s his first time in DC and he’s only been making pens for 2 years. On display was a remarkable variety of very creative pens made from materials including ebonite, acrylic, ironwood, micarta(!) and a human skull. No, not a skull. But still. He’s got bulb fillers, button fillers and who knows what else.
The Wahl-Eversharp Skyscraper LE packaging is impressive as heck. Go check it out.
Good action as usual at the ink tester table. Word to the wise- look carefully before you put a favorite pen in there, the hygiene varies greatly across the table. Frightening as some of these bottles are, it’s easy and fun to spend an hour over there. No other show I’ve been to has this and it’s a treat.
Ok, that’s it for now. Look at those pictures. Come to the show, and introduce yourself if you see me or Dan!
