On June 13, we did an installation of MS office, then installation of antivirus at Policy and Plans Division (Policy Development & Planning Section, Standards Section, National Household Targeting Section, Information & Communication Technology Section). Next, the two of us assisted at Accounting Unit to troubleshoot a printer connection, then installed some software at General Administrative Support Services Division while the rest went to troubleshoot the printer connection at Community Based Services Unit (Pantawid) and lastly, repairing of hard disk.

First off, I'm new to Tumblr and this is my first post. I envision using this tool in order to write some longer-form posts where it might not make as much sense to use Facebook or Twitter.  So this will be the way I blog from here on out, if I have something to say where I think something is blog worthy. Now, recently at work we were doing some stuff involving looking at Average Vehicle Occupancy (AVO).  For those who don't know, AVO is quite simple: the average number of persons per vehicle. This changes by time of day, by roadway, by geography, etc.  It so happens that the national AVO for the U.S. is 1.67 (very golden mean-ish!).  

After about 90 kilometres we arrived at the International Youth Hostel in Portland, Oregon. The Hawthorne neighbourhood. (Nice Italian restaurant down the street: mmmm, mozarella and tomatoes.) We had one flat tire, much chocolate (well, I did) and a good lunch at Scappoose with Milla the Mooch, a neighbourhood cat that begs for kibbles. Even coffee. Outrageous for a feline really. But she is pretty.

We took route 30 all the way from after the Longview Bridge to Portland. Lots of traffic. Not terribly scenic although we did see Mount St. Helens for a while and Mount Hood. But it's a Sunday: where are all those cars, trucks, and motorcycles going with their humans?

Fuel for Thought: The U.S. National Household Travel Survey has these great statistics about Americans and their personal vehicles. Their 2008 survey should be out next year but the 2001 survey is still illuminating. From 1969 to 2001, the number of household vehicles almost doubled. It was six times the increase in population, percentage wise, 181 percent. Okay, you want more numbers? In 1969, there were 72.9 million household vehicles for 197.2 million people. Zoom ahead to 2001, and you've got 203.9 million household vehicles for 277.2 million people. That's a lot of gas.
