you worked at the little café right by the prudential center, as you had a crush on the captain of the hockey team called the new jersey devils.
you never were able to go to a game due to work and taking care of your three-year-old daughter. you had to bring her to the daycare inside of the arena, you were so blessed to have childcare, near work
you have always wanted to go to a game, you never had the time because you got off after games or even during games but you loved hearing and watching highlights.
you saw nico walk up to the café by the prudential center he ordered his usual black americano
you were so nervous to talk to him. you froze whenever you were done making his coffee and calling it out to him, your coworker knew, she was your best friend.
your best friend was dating jack hughes the member of the devil’s team player, who so happened to be the alternate captain and nico’s best friend.
nico was a regular at the café, so you constantly always saw him. so, you know what he always got, so this time you decided to surprise him by saying.
“good morning neeks, your usual?” you ask him, he smiled as you called him by his nickname that was now becoming popular, he nodded his head. “you know it.” he says, nodding his head with a big smile on his face.
you begin to make his usual ice americano, as you are focused on making his coffee. he asked a question you were not expecting him to ask.
“hey, have you ever been to a devil’s game?” he asked you, as you look up from finishing his coffee and shake your head, then you hand him his drink. “i haven’t actually i work a lot and take care of my daughter.” you say, as you lean against the counter.
“how about, i get you and your daughter a ticket? it would be nice to see you in the stands.” he says, smiling as he grabbed the coffee with tender and gentle looking eyes.
“i would greatly appreciate that, she loves you guys it would be fun.” you reply, smiling as he grabs his coffee. “ok, just let me know when you are off work and ill get you tickets.” nico says, smiling as he walked off with his coffee at hand.
as the days went on, you saw nico come into the coffee shop on saturday, you smiled at him. “i was able to get a day off, do you guys have a game this weekend?” you ask, as you were excited to seeing the game for the first time with your daughter.
“hey, you.” he says, smiling as he walked up to the counter to have a conversation with you. “yeah, we just so happen have a game this sunday, speaking of. i was able to score tickets for you two.” nico answers as he smiled showing his dimples, he was really starting to grow fond of her, increasingly each day.
“ok, i am off that day which works perfectly for us to go to the game. wait really? you did not have to do that” you say, smiling as you could not hold the tears of excitement and happiness in. luckily you were able to keep your composure, but you could not believe that he would do that for you.
“i was also able to get you two something even cooler than tickets.” he says to you, as you were shocked by there being another thing that he got you. “i was able to get you two, your very on jersey. with my name and number on it.” nico says, showing you the big jersey clearly for you, and the one just the perfect size for a three-year-old.
you break into tears at this point, you could not believe your eyes, you walk around the counter, and hug him. he hugs you back, rubbing your back as he smiles. “thank you so much, you don’t have to do this.” you say to him as he pulled away to look you in the eyes, as he wiped a tear from your cheek.
“do not thank me, i did it because i wanted to.” he says, smiling as he hugged you one last time, as he rubbed your back again. you walk back to the the counter where you take orders, as you smiled and charge him for his usual order. “you’re really the best.” You say to him, as you make his coffee, your feelings that you had for him just became an even bigger crush as he did this sweet gesture not just for you, but for your daughter.
as you hand him his coffee, you go to put the jerseys he gave you, inside your car as you did not want to mess them up nor lose them.
nico spotted you and your daughter in the stands during warm-ups, waving enthusiastically at them. he skated over after his warm-up, still catching his breath. "hey, glad you guys could make it! hope you enjoy the game," he said with a big smile, feeling grateful for their presence.
you smiled as she waved at him during warmups, your daughter was smiling ear to ear, she was a huge fan of the devils.
“of course, i did, i can’t pass on an opportunity to see you guys play.” you admit smiling as you looked at your daughter.
your daughter smiled as you waved at nico and got all giddy she may be like her mom and have a thing for nico, but your daughter was a hughes fan of curtis lazar
“thank you again nico, ill pay you back, weather you say no or not.” you admit while smiling.
nico chuckled at your determination to repay him. "no need to worry about that, just enjoy the game tonight," he said warmly, appreciating her sincerity. he glanced at your daughter, noticing her excitement, and it warmed his heart to see their enthusiasm for the game. "ill catch you after the game, have fun!" he added before returning to the ice for the match.
after the game, nico skated over to where you and your daughter were seated, a wide grin on his face. "hey, did you enjoy the game?" he asked, a twinkle of excitement in his eyes. he was happy to have played well and even happier to see the joy on their faces.
you nodded as she smiled. you enjoyed the game, especially the win.
“i had fun, you did great” your daughter says, smiling as she jumped up and down while she looked at nico.
“i also enjoyed the game, you were fantastic, and the team was very good.” you say, smiling as you investigate nico’s eyes, as you smiled picked up your daughter.
nico beamed at their praise, feeling a sense of accomplishment. "thanks, i’m glad you both had a good time. it means a lot to me," he said sincerely, appreciating their support. He ruffled your daughter’s, hair gently giving you a warm smile. "hopefully we can do it again soon," he added before heading back to the locker room, feeling grateful for their presence.
you head to the bathroom with your daughter so she could use the bathroom before the long trip home. as you walked out of the bathroom and made your way to the parking garage with your daughter in your arms.
“mommy im sweepy.” your daughter says, she rubbed her little eyes, as she yawned. “its ok baby, we can get you in the car, and you can sleep the whole way home this time.” you say, smiling as you kissed her cheek.
you were walking in the parking garage trying to remember where she parked
as you were trying to find your parked car, you heard footsteps behind you.
to your surprise it was nico who was the one behind you.
nico caught up to you in the parking garage, a smile gracing his lips. "hey, need some help finding your car?" he offered, his eyes warm and friendly.
“oh uh yes, that would be helpful. shes getting a bit heavy.” you say shyly, as you held your close. you kept looking as your daughter as you were able to finally find your car parked all the way in the back of everyone’s car.
“thank you, for you help and a good game.” you say, smiling. nico walked with you to your car, a warm feeling spreading through him as he helped you. "it was my pleasure, really. i am glad you and your daughter could make it tonight, what is her name?" he says/asked genuinely, his eyes showing his appreciation. “her name is ariella.” you tell him, “that is a beautiful name.” he says, as get in the car, ready to drive off, he gathered his courage. "hey, would you like to grab dinner sometime? just the three of us?" he asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.
you smile as you placed ariella in her car seat as she buckled her in to make sure shes safe and secured.
you turned around to look at nico as he was saying it was a pleasure to have them there. “im glad we could make it as well.” you say, as you did not know what to say. you never had a guy into you, let alone being ok with you having a daughter.
“oh, uhm yes, i would like that. i can find someone to watch her unless you do not mind and want her to come.” you say, as you looked back up at nico.
nico smiled at you respond, feeling a surge of happiness at her willingness to spend more time together. "I don't mind at all if ariella comes. in fact, i would love to get to know her better too," he said warmly, his eyes sparkling with excitement. he was looking forward to the dinner and the chance to learn more about both you and ariella.
You smile as she nodded her head, you were shocked that he would not mind your daughter coming you were glad because your daughter meant a lot to you, and you would do anything for her.
“yeah, i don’t mind going for dinner. she would also like it too.” hannah says, answering for her and ariella, you look at your through the window as you smile.
“you are sweet, you don’t have to do this, but you do.” you say, smiling as you was starting to like him a little more than she did before.
you realized you did not have his number so you would have your friend make her boyfriend who is nico’s best friend text him.
nico grinned at your response, feeling a sense of warmth at the prospect of getting to know both her and ariella better. "i’m looking forward to it. and hey, it is no trouble at all. i genuinely want to spend time with you both," he said sincerely, feeling a connection growing between them. he leaned in slightly, a playful glint in his eyes. "i’ll text you the details for dinner," he added, before taking a step back, already excited for their upcoming meeting.
“wait, we don’t have each others' numbers” you say to him, as you chuckle and smile. you smiled and took her phone out for him to input his phone number, you never really met a guy you were into that wanted to get to know you or ariella. “that means a lot to us. we cannot wait to have dinner with you.” you say, smiling.
you blushed as she saw him lean in with a playful glint in his eyes, you looked at the ground before looking back at his eyes. “i will let you know when i have another day off.” you say, smiling as you were ecstatic about seeing him.
