Chapter 4: Magic Bullet
Okay! So my fingernail is gonna still broken. So bad to the point where I need to get a procedure done to have it removed. Yeah not fun but nonetheless I’m writing. Kinda weird to type without the use of my fourth finger. but god gave us ten fingers for a reason.
anyways, I didn’t really like this chapter but eh it’s whatever. A lot of Reader x Stiles, which always makes me happy.
I haven’t edited this so if there are mistakes, please let me know!
Series Masterlist
~
With your parents finally being back home, your father told you every Hale story he was told. As a ‘Welcome to the Truth’ present, your dad gifted you his handwritten book, that his mother made as soon as she found out she was pregnant, of Hale Stories. When you told your dad that you too had a gift to give him, he was almost taken back. What could you, someone who didn’t know about her true lineage, have something to give him with of equal value as the book? Once you gave it to him it took him a second to fully know what his daughter gave him. The second he really looked at the photograph, tears started cascading down his face. He was finally seeing a picture of his own father; his mother didn’t have any time to get any of her belongings when the Argents attacked them all those years ago. After silencing crying for three minutes, he stood up and went to hug you, the tightest he’s ever hugged you, sobbing while saying he loves you and thank you for being the best thing that could ever happen to him. If you weren't crying before, you were then.
You were happy you could give your dad a sense of closer, he tried for years to find anything about him but to no luck Beacon Hills archive had a lot of missing holes. But alas, he has a photo of the day of his parents’ wedding.
Since then, the night of your gift exchange, you noticed a huge mood shift in the house; everything felt clearer, everything tasted better, it felt like the heavy blanket of lies had finally ripped away, the three of you feeling free with everything out in the open. You didn’t have to lie about why you were out most of the nights, you didn’t have to lie about who you were with and what you were doing, and most importantly, you didn’t have to hide your werewolf side.
But that was just when you were in the comfort of your own house. At school, Stiles and Scott didn’t and wouldn’t like you speaking to Derek because they were convinced, he was the bad guy. But now that Scott knows it’s not Derek, that he’s your long-lost family. He realized you have every right to get to know your family, even if that means he’s Derek Hale. Stiles had hung up on you when you told him that Derek couldn’t have been the one that's killing people because he had been with you the whole afternoon. He took you to go meet Peter Hale, then he took you with him to see the bus driver. Then with Scott coming to Derek to fight him, and he found out about everything you’ve been hiding for days. It had been one of the weirdest 12 hours of your life.
it had been a few days since everything happened, you’ve tried to contact Stiles every single day, but he avoided you like the plague. You finally accepted it after Scott let you know that he would talk to him, only lifting your worries for a few moments.
Just as you’re about to fall asleep, you heard unmistakable sound of gunshots and a howl. It didn’t sound like Derek, but it could be the alpha. So, without hesitation you pulled on the closet sneaker and sweatshirt before jumping out your window and running on all fours, following you senses to where you see from around a corner a brunette blonde woman, carrying a rifle and flashlight. Turning round you heard Scott’s footsteps.
“You heard it too?” He asked like you weren’t a werewolf, just like himself.
Confusion written on your face, you hit I'm upside the side, “You’re seriously stupid, yes I heard it. Now shh” you whispered, turning your attention back to the woman as a car had pulled up, the man that was talking to her, Scott recognized as Chris Argent, the hunters that came back into town.
“Well, I can’t help kill either of them if one of them kills me first.” She said as a matter of fact.
“How long will it take?” Chris asks, sounding defeated but still in his low voice.
“I give him 48 hours... if that.” Then they proceeded to get into the car and drive away.
Turning to Scott with the same confused look on both of your faces. “48 hours?”
Scott just shrugged his head, just as clueless as yourself as to what that was. Deciding to just head back home, feeling almost defeated. As you walked in silence, Scott seemed like he had a lot to say. Finally looking over to you to speak.
“I talked to Stiles about the whole alpha thing. I didn’t say anything about you being a Hale. But he did bring up Derek... and you, he thinks you guys are dating.”
You looked to him with a disgust expression. “What? Ew, gross, how did he get to that conclusion?
“I don’t really know, he started rambling too fast for me to understand. You’re really the only one who can keep up with him.” He chuckled, nudging you with his elbow. “You should just tell him, not just about your family history but your feelings for him.”
You abruptly stop walking, your head whipping in his direction. “What? How’d you know?”
Scott laughs, turned to face you. “To be honest with you, I always wanted you two together. It wasn’t until the morning of the bus driver incident. Your heart was beating like crazy, and it slowed the second you hugged him.”
Continuing your journey home in silence, not wanting to talk about your feelings for the boy. But Scott spoke up just before your house came into view, “When did you figure out your feelings for him? or have you always known?”
You thought about lying but he could hear it. “I always denied it until one night Derek was helping me with controlling the shift, he said I needed to find an anchor. Someone to anchor to my humanity, he immediately popped into my mind.”
You sighed before continuing, “It feels... unrequited. So, I kept my distance, controlled the shift so I wouldn’t hurt him or my parents or anyone on the field. I’m glad you know now; it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
Scott just shakes his head, “You should know, It’s not unrequited.” You just shake your head, not believing him, even if he sounds like he’s telling the truth.
“Don’t, he hates me right now. As he should, Derek had been telling me I should just tell you guys- and I quote ‘get your boys back’” Leaning on your vehicle as your house approached quickly.
“Yeah, well, now you just got to get your boy.” He said teasingly as he ran behind your house, taking the shortcut to his house.
The next day at school, Stiles still was avoiding you. But during lunch when you went to go sit with him and Scott, he didn’t leave. Scott must have talked to him. He barely looked at you, but at least this was a step in the right direction. During your shared classes he always sat in the back, while you sat in the front. You knew since freshmen year, if you were sitting in the back, you would get absolutely no work done. So, it wasn’t abnormal that you didn’t talk during class.
You sat in U.S. history, eavesdropping on Stiles and Scott from the back.
“If Derek isn’t the Alpha, if he’s not the one that bit Y/n and yourself then who did?” Stiles asked, quickly.
After a moment Scott answered, “I... I don’t know.”
“Did the alpha kill the bus driver?”
“I don’t know.”
“Y/n knows what’s going, right? Like she’s, okay? She’s safe with Derek?” He asked even faster than before.
“I don’t even know what you said.”
Almost immediately he asked another question. “Does Allison’s dad know about the alpha”
“I don’t know!” Scott raised his voice, irritation clear as day with his words, getting the whole classes attention.
When you looked back, you caught Stile’s gaze. He looked at you with sad or worried eyes before the teacher blocked his view as he passed him his test. Looking back to your own failed test, you lightly groaned.
You were smart, just not very good at history class. Normally you and Stiles would study together but since he has been avoiding you, you had to study for the test alone.
Maybe this would be the perfect excuse for him to talk to you. Maybe when you tell him you failed the test, he’ll feel like he shouldn’t have avoided you. Maybe he’ll want to talk to you.
But your thoughts were interrupted when you thought you smelled Derek’s blood. But why would he be here? At your school?
Before you could get up to investigate, there was a tap on your shoulder, looking up you see it was Stiles. He bent down to your seated height, looking at the test grade, he sighed.
Laying a hand on yours, “Can we talk after school?”
“Yes, please, I need to tell you a lot.” You pleaded, earning a smile from the boy.
“I’ll wait for you after class.” Was all he said before getting back up and walking back to his seat.
You let out a deep breathe you didn’t know you were holding in, looking down at your desk with a smile on your face.
Finally, after class ended you had to stay behind to talk to the teacher about a make-up exam, along with four other students. Walking out the door, stiles waiting for you as he leaned on the adjacent wall.
Walking side by side as you made your way to his Jeep, climbing in you decided you’d want to talk almost immediately.
“Listen, I’m sorry for not telling you about everything. Learning from Derek, being a Hale, parents finding out, For all of it, really. I pulled away because I thought I would hurt you. Derek and I are-” Then the jeep came to an abrupt stop, causing you to jerk forward and bang your head on his dashboard.
Wincing in pain as Stiles first checks on you, “Are you okay, shit, sorry.”
Looking in front the vehicle was a sick looking Derek, almost the second you land eyes on him, he falls back. Getting out to check on him, Scott met you there.
“What are you doing here?” Scott asked crouching down to him.
“I was shot” he breathed out, he looked like death. You went behind him to help him sit up.
“He’s not looking so good, dude” Stiles comments.
“Why aren’t you healing?” You asked, holding him up, wow he’s a lot heavier than he looks, you thought to yourself.
“I can’t. It was-- it was a different kind of bullet.” He sounded in such pain, it started to hurt you.
“A silver bullets?” Stiles jumped in, hoping he could confirm or deny that myth.
“No, you idiot.” Derek groaned at him, immediately you and Scott looked at each other.
“Wait, Scott, maybe that's what the Argent Bitch was talking about!”
“She said you had 48 hours.” Scott added, Derek whipping his head to him.
“What? Who said 48 hours?”
“The bitch that shot you.” You exclaimed, Stiles looking to you like he was contemplating on what he was feeling or about to say. But was derailed when something causes Scott to reprimand Derek.
“What are you doing? Stop that!”
“I’m trying to tell you, I can’t!” He growled back lowly, keeping his head down.
“Come on, get up!” You decide to be proactive, hooking your arms under his armpits, lifting him up. Handing him to Scott as you opened the jeep door, climbing into the back as Scott placed Derek into the car.
“I need you to find out what kind of bullet they used.” Derek leaned against the frame of the vehicle.
“How am I supposed to do that?”
“She’s an Argent, you idiot! The bitch is Allison’s dad’s sister! And I swear to God if you even ask why you should help, let me remind you that the Alpha wants you. Not me, not Derek, not Stiles, but you!” You gritted through your teeth, leaning over, sticking your head out from behind Derek’s head. Scott looked almost scared of you as Stiles jumped into the jeep.
“You need me.” Derek adds, sounding so normal and calm, not aggressive and harsh.
Scott looks won over, “Fine. I’ll try.” Earning a glare from you, he shakes his head. “I’ll do it, won’t try, will do it.”
“I hate this so much” Stiles groaned, driving out of the parking lot. Hated Scott for dragging him into this mess. Hated Derek because he had taken the one good thing for him away. Hated werewolves in general because now it seemed that everything has been turned upside down.
~
You sat in the back of the jeep, trying to not freak out that Derek could die soon if Scott doesn’t find out the type of bullet, they used on him. When Stiles’ phone goes off you lurk forward to look over his shoulder.
“Need more time” was read on his phone.
You couldn’t help but groan at that, dropping your head onto Stile’s shoulder. On instinct Stiles dropped his phone and place his hand in your hair and leaning his head onto yours slightly, trying to comfort you. The action didn’t go unseen, Derek noticed whilst he tried to take his jacket off. His groans and winces grabbed your attention, only turning your head in his direction. Stiles noticed the look Derek had, almost proud but still in very much pain. It only confuses him, he heard you earlier when you said you were a Hale. But you were talking so fast, he couldn't get a word in. He couldn’t but think; could Derek be proud because you liked him the same way he likes you?
Deciding to distract himself he spoke to Derek, ‘Try not to bleed out on my seats, okay? We’re almost there.”
“Almost where?” You asked, before Derek could, lifting your head and leaning back into the seat.
He sighs before responding, “Your house.” Speaking to Derek, almost ignoring you.
“What? No, you can’t take me there.” Derek breathed out, looking paler by the second.
“I can't take you to your own house?” Stiles argues with a slight laugh, you looked between the two like it was a tennis match.
“Not when I can’t protect myself.”
Stiles then pulls over, looking frustrated.
“What happened is Scott doesn’t find your little magic bullet? Why can’t Y/n protect you? Haven’t you been teaching her something? Mhmm, are you dying?” Stiles rambled, his view protruding out of his neck and waving his hands around slightly. Honestly, if Derek wasn’t currently dying you would have told Stiles he looks hot while angry.
“Not yet” Derek pants, “I have a last resort.”
“What do you mean? What last resort?”
Derek lifts his sleeve to reveal the bullet wound, causing Stiles to gag and look away. You tried not to think about it, looking at everything but his arm.
“Oh my god, what is that? Oh, it that contagious? You know what, you should probably just get out.” Stiles sounded to disgusted, pointing out the door.
“Start the car. now.” Derek pants, you want to intervene but knowing Derek and Stiles you really didn’t want to get in the middle of it.
“You know I don’t really think you should be barking orders with the way you look? In fact, I think if I wanted to, I could probably drag your little werewolf ass out into the middle of the road and leave you for dead.” Stiles rambles again, but this time he looks twice as good as earlier.
Damn was that attractive, you had to pinch yourself to bring your intrusive thoughts back to normal.
“Start the car, or I'm going to rip your throat out with my teeth.” Derek threatens, sounding even more terrifying than ever before.
Stiles reluctantly starts the jeep; you want to reach out to calm him but resist because then you’ll never hear the end of it from Derek. That’s if he survives the next couple hours.
~
It had been a few hours since the last time Scott had contacted Stiles, which doesn’t really surprise you. He was basically in the lion’s den, alone and without back up. It was nerve wrecking. Finally, though, Stiles was able to get him on the phone. You weren’t paying much attention to them; you were trying to take the pain away from Derek. Having only gotten the hang of it just a few minutes before, it felt strange. You were siphoning his pain into you, so naturally you would wince in pain, but your body healed faster than Derek.
“You’re not going to believe where he’s telling me to take you.” Stiles said, passing the phone to Derek. Looking back at you to see you were taking more of Derek’s pain. The veins leading up your arms and neck were black; he was getting worried that maybe you were taking too much. But thankfully you stopped once it was too unbearable for you. You dropped your hands from Derek and fell back into the seat, relieved that Derek had a little bit taken away.
Stiles grimaced, reaching hand out to hold yours. You were breathing heavy as you looked up at him, his concerning eyes locking with your tired ones. Maybe what you were feeling for him was how he felt about you. Maybe he likes you too. Maybe you can get him back. Maybe.
“Did you find it?” Derek sounded drunk, slurring his words. But it was the pain mixed with the relief of you taking some of it.
“How am I supposed to find one bullet? They have a million. This house is like the freaking Walmart of guns.”
“Look if you don’t find it, then I’m dead, all right?”
“I’m starting to think that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.”
“Think about this, the alpha called you out against your will. He’s going to do it again. Next time, you either kill with him or get killed. So, if you want to stay alive, then you need me. Find the bullet.” Derek panted but still sternly spoke to Scott. Then he hung up, throwing the phone to Stiles.
“Okay, so to the animal clinic.” You tried to break the awkward silence that filled the vehicle.
Stiles retracted his hand from yours to drive towards Scott’s place of work. Once you got there, Stiles grabbed the key and made the way inside while you held up Derek. You dropped him on a stacked pile of something you didn’t know nor cared if he’s saved at the end of this.
“Does Northern Blue Monkshood mean anything to you?” Stiles pulled his phone out of his jeans pocket, reading out loud the message from Scott, turning toward you.
“Isn’t that wolfsbane?” you asked, recognizing it to be poison. Looking to Derek who nodded.
“It’s a rare form of it, yes. He has to bring me the bullet.” He panted as he holds his arm against his body.
“Why?” You asked, kneeling in front of Derek.
“Cause I’m going to die without it.” He sighed, leaning against the wall. You looked over to Stiles.
“I can’t lose him, Stiles. He’s all the family I have left, Scott needs to get here.” You pleaded, voice breaking with your words. Tears threatening to spill as you looked up to Stiles, his heart breaking at the sight of you so broken.
Stiles kneeled in front of you, grabbing a hold of your face to look at him. “Scott’s coming, I promise you Derek will be fine. We just got to wait for him, okay? Let's get him inside and we’ll get a plan, okay?” His calming voice and thumbs caressing your skin brought you a wave of peace s you nodded your head at the boy.
“Okay, grab him and I'll get the door. Can you do that for me?” He moves a strand of your hair behind your ear, getting a better look at your face.
You nod, afraid that if you even try to speak, you'd end up crying. Stiles smiled, getting up and bringing you up along with him. He went to unlock the door as you wipe harshly at the tears that involuntarily fell down your face, grabbing a hold of Derek. Stiles leaded you and Derek into the exam room, switching the light on. Derek pushed away from you, tearing his shirt off his body to reveal how badly the wound had gotten. His veins were almost black around the hole, red sticky blood oozing out of the bullet wound and onto the table.
“You know, that really doesn’t look like anything some echinacea and a good night of sleep can’t take care of.” Stiles sarcastically points out; he was a little put off at the sight of blood.
“If the infection reaches my heart, it’ll kill me.” Derek’s heavy breathing getting more irregular as he turned around looking in all the cabinets and drawers.
“’Positivity’ just isn’t in your vocabulary, is it?” Stiles remarked, earning a small glare from you as you were pacing from one end of the room to the other.
“What if Scott doesn’t get here in time? You know with the bullet?” You asked nervously still pacing off to the side.
“Last resort.”
“Which is?” Stiles egged on, wanting to know to how extreme this plan was.
Derek pulls out an electric saw, “You’re going to cut off my arm.”
You stopped pacing, staring between the saw and Derek. “What? No, Scott’s coming, Scott will be here!”
“If he isn’t, Y/n, you have to. One of you have to.” He handed the saw over on the table as he tied a blue elastic around his upper bicep.
“Oh my god, what if you bleed to death?” Stiles tries to reason with him as you resumed your pacing but faster now.
“It’ll heal if it works.”
“Ugh look... I don’t know if I can do this.” Stiles began to look a shade of green.
“Why not?” Derek mumbled, with the elastic in his mouth.
“Alpha, beta, omega” you mumbled to yourself as you felt yourself becoming undone, pacing, and repeating the words to yourself until you felt calm enough. But the looming thought that your family, the one you’ve just gotten is possibly getting taken away from you just as fast as you got it. Ignoring the bantering between Stiles and Derek, you leaned against a cold awl, slowly sliding down it until you’re sitting on the floor.
“Alpha, beta, omega... Alpha, beta, omega.” You kept repeating those three words, each repetition bringing you closer to control. You looked to the two boys, focusing your hearing on Stiles. Not what he was saying but to his heart rate. It was irregular but that was justified considering what Derek was asking him to do, more demanding but same thing.
Finally feeling back in control, you stood up just as Derek leaned over the table and threw up black liquid. “Holy god, what the hell is that?”
Standing next to Stiles, immediately tangling your hands together. He gave you a tight squeeze. “It’s my body trying to heal itself”
Gagging Stiles responds “Well, it’s not doing a very good job.” Giving you hand another lasting squeeze, realizing he might be squeezing too hard he lets go slightly. But then he remembered you’re a werewolf, squeezing it tighter than before. You didn’t care, you were too worried for Derek.
Derek looks up to you, “Now. You got to do it now.” He pants laying his head on the cold table.
“Look, honestly I don’t think I can.” Stiles starts, looking his bleeding arm.
“Just do it!” Derek yells, eyes shutting tightly.
You tugged at Stiles’ hand, giving him a head nod. “I can do it.”
He shakes his head, releasing your hand, “Oh my god. Okay, okay. I’ll cut; you hold him down.” Stiles decides, picking up the saw and turning it on. You hold onto Derek, making him stay put.
Just as Stiles is positioning himself Scott calls out, “Stiles!”
“Scott?” He looks to his best friend.
Scott takes in the scene in front of him, “What the hell are you doing?”
Stiles dryly chuckles, turning off and dropping the saw. “Oh, you just prevented a lifetime of nightmares.”
“Did you get it?” You let go of Derek, shuffling over to Stiles once more. His arm snaking around your waist, pulling you into him. He was more than glad he wouldn’t be the reason he cut off someone’s arm. Bringing his other hand into your hair. Your arms wrap around his waist, sighing that Scott was finally back.
Scott hands the bullet over for Derek to inspect it.
Breaking away from your hug, “What are you going to do with it?” Stiles asked, dropping his hand to lace your fingers together once more.
Derek mumbles something just as he looked paler, his head dropping as well as the bullet. Then he passes out, the poison is getting further into his bloodstream. Scott dives for the bullet while you and Stiles go to Derek’s side.
“Derek, come on, wake up!” you shook him slightly.
“Scott, what the hell are we going to do?”
“I don’t know!” He grumbles, trying to reach for the bullet. “I can’t reach it.”
“He’s not waking up! I think he’s dying! I think he’s dead!” Stiles rambles, you close your eyes to think.
“Scott, use your claws. Just breathe and focus on getting the bullet. Stiles,” you get the boys attention, grabbing his face like he did before to make him look at you. “Calm down, you’re stressing me out.”
You let go of him once he gave you a nod, turning back to Derek, you shrug thinking maybe punching him away will help. But before you had a chance to pull your hand back, Stiles did it.
“Please don’t hate me for this” He mumbles as he lands a punch on him, instantly waking him. He groans in pain, and he helps you lift Derek.
You grab the bullet from Scott, breaking the tip of it off and pounding it on the table to get the powder out from inside of it.
“Now, light it.” Derek directed, handing you a lighter. A spark rising into the air, causing everyone to take a step back, you shuffled over to Stiles getting away from the blue smoke that replaced the spark. Reaching for Stiles’ hand, his met you in the middle, intertwining your fingers together.
Stiles mumbles an ‘oh my god’ as Derek gathered the torched powder into his hand and digging it into his wound. Derek started yelling in pain, toppling over to the floor once more, growling and roaring as his arm started to heal. They dark veins retracting, the wound fading away as it healed. Stiles squeezed onto your hand just as hard as you were squeezing his.
Once it was all gone, no trace of the wound Stiles spoke up. “That... was... awesome!” he exclaimed, pulling your connected hands up as he pumped the air with his fists closed. Scott seeing his closed hand around yours but deciding to speak about it at another time.
“Are you okay?” Scott asked as Derek sat up.
“Aside from the agonizing pain?” He remarks sarcastically, getting up.
“I guess the use of sarcasm is a good sign of health.” Stiles comments earning a glare from Derek, making Stiles take a step back into you.
“Derek, you sure you’re, okay?” You asked sincerely, letting go of Stiles and walking up to Derek.
He nodded his head, his voice soft “Yeah, I'm okay now. I didn’t mean to scare you but like I said, wolfsbane has nasty effects on us.” The boys looked to each other astonished at the character change he displayed.
“Okay, we saved your life. Which means you’re going to leave us alone, if you don’t, I’ll go back to Allison’s dad. And I’ll tell him everything--” Scott’s threat was cut short by you.
“You’re going to trust them?” You scoffed with as much hatred as you could muster.
“You think they can help you?” Derek adds, pure hatred for the Argent’s clear in his eyes.
“Why not? They’re a lot nicer than you are. At least to anyone who isn’t related to you.” Scott rebukes, earning another scoff from you and Derek.
“I can show you exactly how nice they are.”
“What do you mean?” Scott asks tentatively.
~
After dropping off Scott and Derek at the Hale property, Stiles made his way to your place. You had to get everything out in the open, he had to know everything.
“Please, come inside and I’ll explain everything.” You opened the door but didn’t move to leave the vehicle until he did too. He nodded his head following suit.
Once inside you darted upstairs to your room where you kept the written family heirloom. Sitting on your bed, Stiles following next to you. He eyed the book in your hands.
“I guess I should start from the beginning...”
(Flashback to the Dinner from Second Chance at First Line)
By the time your father got home, you only had a few minutes to explain to him what was going to happen at dinner. Just as you were finishing there was a knock on the door.
“I’ll get it.” Once you opened the door, Derek stood there with a smile on his face, flowers in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other.
“Flowers for your mother, wine for the rest of us.” He explains, walking into the foyer. Your parents walked out of the dining room to see for themselves.
“Mom, dad, this is Derek. Derek my parents Y/m/n and Y/d/n.” you introduced as you closed the door behind him.
Handing the bouquet of flowers to your mom, “For you Mrs. Y/l/n.” Then he looked to your dad who looked at him with an intimidating expression. “This is for dinner.”
He handed the bottle over to your father, who looks it over and begins to smile. As dinner starts your parents basically interrogate him about his life. They talked about the Hale family fire, that story made your parents immediately fall into liking him. Then came the dreaded part, telling them you’re a werewolf.
“Mom, dad, there is something I need to get off my chest.” You said nervously, pushing your empty plate away. Earning a nod from Derek, that didn’t go unnoticed.
“Don’t tell me you're pregnant.” your dad jokes, earning a hard head shake from you.
“No, that would be better news.” You muttered, looking down at your hands.
“Sweetheart, you’re scaring us. What going on?” Your mothers sweet voice coaxed you look up at them.
Once you looked to your worried parents, it was like the gates to hell broke apart and you spilled all of it. Telling them from when Stiles dragged you out of bed to the woods, to the creature on four legs, to the bite, and finally Derek helping you gain control. They just sat there, without any tells of anger, disappointment, or even fear. They just nodded their head along with every new piece of information given. Finally, once you were finished, you felt that they were unconvinced.
Pushing your chair back as you stood to your feet. Taking in a deep breath, closing your eyes and bring out your neon werewolf eyes, claws and fangs. You could hear their heartbeats pick up their pace. Once you opened your eyes your mother looked shocked to say the least. But it’s your father’s reaction that concerned you. He looked to like it was a normal everyday occurrence.
Derek noticed that your father didn’t seem at all surprised, making him curious to why.
“Dad? Mom?” You spoke up, retracting your claws and fangs. Your eyes stayed their bright yellow until you blinked it away, along with a few tears that rimmed your eyes.
Derek watched carefully from his seat at one end of the table as your father stood up. “Oh, my darling baby girl, I’ve been dying to tell you about our family history. And it’s a good thing you’re here Derek, since it’s our family history.”
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion as Derek mirrored your expression.
“What do you mean?” Derek asked your father, leaning into his chair.
“My mother was married to one of your great uncles.” He spoke directly to Derek, who by the looks of is just now hearing about this family history. “Unfortunately, before she was able to tell him that they were pregnant, he died at the hands of an Argent. So, in efforts to protect me and herself, she remarried and moved to Seattle. I grew up hearing stories about the Hales, and how I couldn’t be one because of the danger it poses. I was never able to trigger my born werewolf abilities because I was only half werewolf, half human.”
He walks over to you, grabbing a hold of your face to look at him. “Once your mother got pregnant with you, we moved out here. I just knew we were meant to be here. Where our family started, now you’re exactly what you should have always been. Y/n, you’re a Hale.”
Once your father let go of your face you looked over to Derek, who looked so confused but after a few second, he looked up at you two in amazement. You were family, it all explains how you weren’t terrified of him that one afternoon in the woods, but the guys were. How you were able to really connect with him, no questions asked. He was your family; he was your blood. Derek stood up, walking over to you and your dad, pulling you each into his embrace. He felt broken before, now he felt like a small missing piece of himself came back.
So, their stood three Hales, holding onto each other tightly in a small family reunion.
“So, did you really wrestle Stiles, or did you break the door on your own?” You mother piped up, seemingly at peace with the news you and your father dropped.
You laughed out a response, “Yeah, no that was all me.”
“I figured as much.”
After you finished replaying the dinner with Stiles, as you showed him the book, he looked at you with guilty eyes.
“And here I was thinking you were dating Derek. I’m sorry I made it seem like you couldn't tell me anything. Truly, I guess I just got a little... jealous.” He explains, reaching for your hand. Once in his grasp he squeezed it and pulled it into his lap.
“it’s not all your fault, I pulled away. I didn’t want to hurt you or anyone really. Since it looked so easy for Scott to lose control and the fact that being a female werewolf is harder than male. I just... I wanted to look after you.” you said barely above a whisper.
“You could never hurt me, I know you. I don’t want you to ever feel like you can’t come to me about anything, okay? No more secrets, at all. We tell each other everything, alright?” He asked, looking up to you with pleading eyes.
You smiled slightly, nodding your head. “No secrets, whatsoever.”
Stiles smiled at you, nodding his head back at you. You leaned your head on his shoulder basking in the feeling of the weight taken off your shoulders. This feeling of serenity was your favorite feeling of all time.
Finally, everything was out in the open, aside from the strong feelings of love for Stiles. You were determined to keep those feelings buried for as long as it takes.
You were just happy that you finally got your boys back.

You sighed in frustration as you dropped your pencil, along with your head, onto Stiles’ bed. You were laying on your stomach with your history textbook and notebook out, Stiles sat next to you with his own school supplies in front of him.
“That’s it, I can’t do it. Might as well accept a fail on my make-up test tomorrow.” You sighed heavily again, straining your neck to look up at Stiles.
Stiles closed his textbook slightly, “Y/n, you got this. You know the material you just have test anxiety.”
Rotating from your stomach to your back to look at Stiles, you thought to yourself that maybe he was right. Instead of looking at Stiles, the ceiling was calling for your attention.
You huffed, Maybe I should tell him…
“Tell who what?” Stiles asked, his focus being solely on you.
“What?” You whipped your head to Stiles, had you said that out loud?
Stiles looked at you with furrowed brows, confusion taking over his face. “Y/n, are you okay?”
“Oh yeah, I’m good. Just nervous I’ll fail, even with your help.”
Stiles lifts his hand to reach for yours but hesitates, hoping you didn’t notice. Instead he picked up his textbook and notebook.
“How about we call it a night? We can review before school tomorrow.” He suggests as he gets up off the bed and goes to his desk, leaning onto the table.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” You said in a low voice as you stood to gather your things and stuff them into your bag.
“Do me a favor?” Suddenly Stiles says, almost shocking you.
You nod, “Sure.”
“Talk to me, what's going on?” His voice is clear and sincere.
You chuckle lightly, “Stiliniski, I’m fine. I just got a lot on my mind, okay?”
Stiles opens his mouth to speak but is cut off by your phone ringing, saved by the bell.
You answered the call before even looking at the caller i.d.
“Hello?”
“Y/n, you got time to practice a little? My shoulder’s been feeling rusty, Can you please just meet me at the field in 5?” Jackson’s voice rang through the speaker.
“Seriously Jackson? I gotta study for my make-up test tomorrow!”
“I’ll quiz you, please?” He begs, undoubtedly doing his puppy dog face.
You huffed, contemplating on your decision. “Fine but we are stopping at the hour mark. I’ll need all the help I can get.”
You can hear Jackson cheer in glee, “Awesome! Do you need me to pick you up?”
“No, I can get a ride. I’ll see you in ten minutes.”
You hung the call up, tossing your phone onto the bed. You looked up at Stiles, his face showing that he didn’t like that you were leaving to hang out with Jackson.
“Could you give me a ride home then to the school?” you sheepishly asked, bringing your hands together, ready to plead.
After a moment, his expression softens. “Okay, fine. Come one, let's go.”
“Thank you” You squealed as you climbed over the bed to attack stiles in a hug.
He chuckled upon impact, patting your back. “Okay, okay. I get it, I'm amazing. Now let's go before I change my mind.”
-
When the next day came around Stiles had decided to create some space between you and himself. You, the ever so awkward human being, had decided to lock yourself in the library to study for the make up exam. But on the way there you ran into Lydia, who then followed you and helped with the studying. As it turns out Lydia was a much greater help than Stiles was.
“Lydia, can I ask you something?” You whispered, getting the redheads attention.
“Anything.” she sets her pen down to give you her undivided attention.
“There’s this guy, okay, my friend tells me I should tell the guy how I feel. But I think the guy is really into this other girl and has been for a while. I don’t know what to do.”
Lydia chuckles, “Y/n, if this guy doesn’t at all like you then he’s an idiot. You're hot, smart, and you're into sports. You’re like the total package.” She pauses, looking over your outfit for the day. “If you let me style you, then you’d be the total package.”
You laughed and she joined in, getting an aggressive Shh from a nearby student. Lydia barely looked at her when she rolled her eyes.
Once the laughs turned to slight giggles, Lydia spoke up in a reassuring tone of voice. “You’re great, if this guy doesn’t return the feelings then to hell with him. I can set you up with a few dates with guys from the city.”
You smirked at her, “Lydia, are you suggesting I date older guys?”
Earning another fit of giggles from the both of you, which entails another aggressive Shh from the same girl earlier. Only making you want to laugh louder.
After roughly an hour Allison showed up in the library, spotting Lydia and immediately making a bee line for your table. Lydia sighed as she saw the book in Allisons hands.
“Please don’t tell me anymore about that beat of Gerald legend, it’s boring.” Lydia starts, earning a playful glare from Allison.
“It’s La Bête du Gévaudan and no, I'm not here for that. Scott got after school detention before he has to go into work so I can hang out before I see him later for our date.”
“The beast of what?” Was all you said right before Lydia was going to speak, Lydia and Allison both looked at you confused.
“Out of all of that, that's what you're focused on?” Lydia asks with a chuckle. Allison smiled at you as she sat next to you. She opened her little book to a section about the beast of Gevaudan.
“I’m Allison by the way.” She greets.
“Oh yeah I know who you are, youre dating my best friend Scott.” She blushes and nods, “Yeah I’m Y/n.”
“Yeah I know who you are too, he talks about you and Stiles a lot.”
“Don’t worry, every story he’s told is not true, I'm sure of it.” You joked and laughed at yourself.
“So you and Stiles didn’t scare living daylights out of him the night before school started?” She asked laughing, getting a proud smile from you.
“That one is actually true, yeah.” You giggled, Lydia already giving the fellow student one table away a death glare.
“Back on topic, Allison will tell Y/n that if the guy she likes doesn’t like her back then to hell with him and then we’re in agreement.” Lydia pipes up.
“Okay Lydia, no need to tip everyone off to a typical high school thing.” You said almost cringing at yourself.
“Who’s the guy?” Allison said, sing songy like.
“I’m not telling, I just honestly think he’s too into someone else to even notice me like that.”
“Then Lydia is right, if he doesn’t then to hell with him.” Allison agrees, giving you a determined look.
“Okay, to hell with him if he doesn’t”
“If you really want to know, just say something.” Lydia adds, encouraging you.
“Don’t think, just say what you have to say and you’ll get your answer.” Allison adds, nudging you a little.
“Thanks for the advice but I can't use up all my free periods denying the inevitable. I got a test to go do.”
After getting through your classes it was finally time for you to take your make-up test, Stiles spotted you in the hall right before entering the classroom. He ran to you with two phones in his hands.
“I had the perfect idea to help Scott control himself, and it’s working! We figured it out! Allison keeps him in control. She brings him back! She’s his anchor.” Stiles then rambles on and on about the heart monitor and how he’s been testing and monitoring Scott all day. You honestly couldn’t keep up with him this time.
After 5 whole minutes of him rambling, he finally stopped. He was panting, looking at you and trying to guess what you were thinking.
“That was a lot of information in such a short time, Stiles.” You said, trying not to giggle. Getting a smile out of Stiles.
“Sorry, I just… I was just thinking about how you got yourself under control? What's your anchor?” He started to fidget with his fingers.
“Uh, well it’s different for me. It’s easier for born werewolves to gain control. Now if you can excuse me I have a test to do.” You said walking around him to pull the door open, before fully walking in you turned around. In a ‘don’t think, just do’ rush, you sighed before speaking. “It's you, my anchor is you.”
You gave a meek smile and walked into the classroom. The door closed and Stiles just stood there, watching you go in and take a seat until you were out of view. And he stayed standing there, too shocked to move.
The girl he likes just admitted that she basically feels the same about him.
When you walked out of the classroom, you ran right into Stiles, who hadn’t moved from his position the entire time.
“Stiles?” you were confused because he should be in class.
“I’m your anchor?” He asked, seemingly still in shock.
“Yeah, at first in my head I saw you and Scott but the higher the voltage got the more it was just you and…” you chuckled at yourself, “and the sound of your laugh.”
“You like me?” He asked, still not believing what he’s hearing. Giving you the impression that he didn’t know what to do with this information, almost like he was purposely being awkward.
You cleared your throat and took a step back, accepting the vibes he was giving off. “Look I get it, I'm your friend of way too many years and you think it’s weird. I… just forget I ever said anything to you. I… I’m going now.” You ducked your head, walking away before your emotions slipped out via tears from your eyes.
You hurried your way through the sea of students to the locker rooms. Running into an empty stall to silently cry. Shaking the depression out of your body, you wipe at your eyes and control your breathing. After waiting it out a few more minutes, you messaged Lydia about the bad news. Within seconds, Lydia came storming into the locker room, looking under the stalls for you. But she wasn’t alone, you heard a second set of heels.
“Y/n, sweetheart, come out.” Lydia’s soft voice echoes through the room. “Y/n?” Then came Allisons voice. You pushed the stall door open, revealing yourself to them. Dried tear stains ran along your cheeks, with a runny red tipped nose and bloodshot eyes. Your bottom lip started to quiver, fresh tears lining the corners of your eyes. Lydia brought you into a hug, Allison joining in.
“He was just so awkward about it.” you began to cry again, god how you hated this gut twisting feeling. “I mean look at me, I'm pathetic, crying because a guy doesn’t like me back. Can I get any more stupid?”
“Yeah, you could be dating a secret gay guy, I don’t know.” Lydia jokes, earning a laugh from you and Allison.
“It’s his loss, okay, tonight we will be hanging out with Jackson and doing anything to keep you distracted, okay?” Lydia suggests as a plan, Allison first parted from the hug to get you napkins and started to pat dry your face.
“Okay, sounds like a plan.” You sniffled, letting the girls do their thing. “I’ve never had a girlfriend to help with all this.”
“Yeah, because all your friends are dudes. Honestly I’m glad I’m the first girlfriend, and even more happy that you and Jackson get along great and I don’t have to pick sides.”
“Well that's mainly because you’re always right.” Allison jokes, getting all three of you to laugh. “Come on, I'll take you guys home.”
After spending a few hours talking to Lydia and Allison, you felt better. You had to accept the fact that Stiles doesn’t see you the same way, and that's okay. It was always the reason why you never wanted to say anything in the first place. But nonetheless it hurts. So while you wallow in self pity, you talked to the girls about it. All of it, well as much of it as you can tell them. You can already tell how they’ll react to you being a werewolf. But from what you heard earlier, Allison might be the best bet to handle it better.
“What do you say to a double date kind of thing, i can set you up with this guy- Lydia” Lydia started talking but was cut off by Allison.
“Lydia, I don’t think what she needs is an immediate rebound.”
“No, what she needs is the perfect rebound.”
“Allison’s right, Lyd I just don’t want to do that yet. I’m fine, it was just a little crush. I’m basically over it.” You explain, getting up from Lydia's bed. You walked to your bag that was sitting by the door. You pulled your phone out, noticing the missed calls from Derek, Scott and even one from Stiles.
“I gotta call my mom, be right back.” You walked out of the room and into the bathroom before calling Derek back.
Derek answered after the second ring, “Y/n, meet me at Scott’s work. Now.” was all he said before hanging up. Confused, you were going to call Scott, your finger hovering over the call button. But instead you decided to just meet with Derek.
“I’m sorry it’s my cousin, I gotta go.” You grabbed your bag heading to the door.
“Oh okay, I’m heading home anyways, I can drop you off.” Allison said, grabbing her own bag and keys.
“But Jacksons gonna be here soon.”
“I’m sorry Lydia, I'll make it up to you.” You sped out of the house with Allison in tow, confused as to why you're in such a rush. “Can you drop me off at the Vet?” You realized you had to lie, why would your cousin be at Scott's workplace?
“It’s… his dog. More of a family dog, so you know it’s important.”
“Oh yeah okay,” She seemed to buy the lie and actually hurried to get there fast. ONce she parked she started taking her seatbelt off.
“Oh Allison it’s okay, really. I just… don’t want to upset him… with a stranger, you know?” She nodded her head, totally confused but accepting it.
You hurried inside as she pulled out of the parking lot, you ran behind the desk and into the back room. Seeing Derek, tying up Scott's boss Deaton. Derek began to run on and on about how he’s the alpha without any actual evidence.
Then he started to wake up, but you were too focused on arguing with Derek. “But Derek, listen to me, you literally cut him and he isn’t healing! So no I don’t believe you. It’s not him. You said we can hide our scent, but he is unconscious and I only smell human!”
Then when Deaton starts to struggle that gets Derek’s attention.
He walks to him out of the darkness, “Are you protecting someone?”
“Alright, the key to the drug cabinet is in my pocket.” He starts, hoping that this is just a burglary attempt.
“I don’t want drugs, I want to know why you’re lying!” Derek almost growls.
Dr. Deaton shudders in fear as you listen to his heart beat. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
He was scared shitless but he’s lying. Derek must have picked up on it because next thing you know Derek swivels him around and lifts the chair into the air. He begins “I want to know who you are and who you are protecting!”
“Derek!” you called out to him right before Scott came in from the back entrance screaming at Derek.
“What are you doing?!”
Dr. Deaton turns his head to see Scott, yelling at him,“Scott, get out of here!”
Derek drops the chair and pouches the vet in the face, knocking him unconscious.
“Derek!”
“Stop!” Scott grabbed onto Derek's jacket, then he looked at you, “were you just gonna stand there and watch?”
“He’s lying about something. He knows something!” You reason, “I wasn’t gonna let him actually hurt him.”
“Well too late!” Scott said, pointing to his boss.
“When he’s conscious he can keep himself from healing. Unconscious he can’t. The spiral, it’s our sign for vendetta, for revenge. He won’t stop until he’s satisfied!” Derek gives the same speech he did to you to Scott, but more aggressive.
“You think he’s the alpha?” Scott yells back into Derek's face.
“We’re about to find out.” Derek reaches with his claws out to Deatons neck, but is stopped by Scott wolfing out and growling at him. He looks at how fast he got back in control. Looking at Derek with a dark expression.
“Hit him again and you’ll see me get angry.”
After Derek calmed down and Scott treated to Deatons wound you sat on a table, completely bored out of your mind. The tension between Derek and Scott is intense to say the least.
They have a hushed conversation that you still pick up on.“Meet me at the school, in the parking lot.”
Scott left on his bike while you and Derek stuffed Deaton into the very cramped backseat of his car. With The parking lot coming into view so did Stiles’ jeep with both boys standing next to it with stuff in their hands.
“Well, this is just perfect” You sighed heavily, earning a concerned look from Derek. He knew something was up but wasn’t sure what happened.
“We’ll talk later.” He mumbled before getting out of the car, following suit you kept your head down and didn’t look in the direction of either Scott or Stiles.
“Where’s my boss?”
“He’s in the back.” Both you and Derek said together. The boys peer around you to see him cramped in a lying position.
“He looks comfortable.” Stiles jokes, getting a nudge from Scott as they make their way to the building's entrance.
“Hey, where are you going?”
He turns to look back at you two, “You said I was linked with the alpha.” Then he continues his path. “I’m going to see if you’re right.”
You gave Derek a look, “I don’t like where this is going.” You whispered, finally leaning on the car and looking towards the boys. Keeping your focus on Scott and not Stiles or how he was basically staring hole into you. You stayed by Derek's side, sitting on the back end of Stiles’ jeep. Derek wanted to ask about what was bothering you but decided that you will speak up about it when you’re ready.
“I told Stiles he was my anchor and it's all ruined yet again, solely on my actions again.” You huffed, looking into the trees at the edge of the parking lot.
“You put yourself out there, you gotta give yourself some wiggle room. So what if he doesn’t feel that way about you, I can kill him. I’d happily do that for you.” He said, causing you to laugh slightly.
“Yeah let’s not commit murder of a teenager.”
After a moment of silence, you hear a shrill howl over the school's PSA speakers. Immediately cringing at Scott’s howl.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“He sounds like he is choking a cat to death.” You mutter, earning a chuckle from Derek.
“Yeah that was bad, definitely worse than your first howl.”
Then you hear the click of an announcement coming in, then you hear a great howl. It was so loud you could hear the rattling of things inside the school.
“I’m gonna kill them. First I’ll kill Stiles, then Scott then back to Stiles for you…” He earned a chuckle from you. “A howl like that will be heard from other packs, and they’ll think there's a new alpha coming. It could be really bad.” Derek began to go down the rabbit hole.
“Derek, calm down. I’m pretty sure Scott was calling out only for the one we’re looking for. The others can probably tell the difference between a threat and… well… whatever the hell that was.” You said pointing back over to the school.
Once the boys came back out from inside Derek immediately was on their ass. “I’m gonna kill both of you” then he pointed to Stiles, “I’m killing you twice.”
Before Stiles could respond Derek continued, “What the hell was that? What are you trying to do, attract the entire state to the school?”
“Sorry, I didn't think it would be that loud.”
Stiles chuckles, “Yeah it was loud. And it was…” And sings “Awesome”
Derek gives him a stern look, “Shut up.”
“Don’t be such a sourwolf.” He jokes, you rolled your eyes, avoiding direct eye contact with Stiles.
Scott then notices Derek's door opened and the seat forward with Deaton missing. “What’d you do with him?”
“What are you talking about?” You asked, walking around the jeep to see he was missing.
“We didn’t do anything.”
You both turned back to face the boys, when you heard a low growl and the familiar scent of the alpha. You turned around just in time to see him coming at you, he knocked into you first, sending you flying towards the building, getting knocked unconscious when you hit the cement wall. Stiles immediately ran to you, as the alpha sunk his claws into Derek’s back, lifting him high into the air before throwing him to another brick wall. Scott turns to run back into the school, ready to drag Stiles with him but Stiles is already lifting you into his arms to get you inside too. Scott ushered him inside before he held the doors close protecting them from the alpha outside.
