Temple Mountain - Wapack Trail - New Hampshire
From the parking area head across Temple Road to the trailhead. This is a great hike for someone looking for some pretty decent views for little effort. The most incline you will experience is within the first half mile and I would consider climbing that moderately difficult at most. If you happen to loose the trail look for the nearest stone wall as the trail for the most part follows this old New England property line over the top of Burton Peak, Temple Mountain, and Holts Peak. Its amazing that someone would put forth so much effort just to mark the edge of their property.
The first outlook is about 3/4 of a mile into the hike giving you views of the valley below and on a clear day the city of Boston about 60 miles away. About a mile into the hike the views open up on the western side of the mountain giving you some spectacular views of Mt Monadnock.
A little bird (also known as my NH hiking guide) told me that from late July to September this trail is surrounded by bushes bearing blueberries.
Anyway a great hike for families, doggies, or families with doggies.
The Wapack Trail stretches from Ashburnham Mass to North Pack Monadnock in Greenfield NH for more information on the trail, the mountain, or the range please visit one of the articles below.
