May be slightly out of date, but this what I've been going off of design wise
Thinking about the Darkness right now...
Every character that is affected by the Darkness in this AU (aside from the characters forced into it) are affected because of their capacity to feel "negative" emotions.
Sabre doesn't know how to deal with his grief and it consumes him in a way
Aalto (Nightmare) is bitter because someone he looked up to was hated by the Yellow Steves (and MAN do I want to talk about that. I have ideas)
And the moment Seer met Colle he was doomed because of how Blue Steves work, and his doubts about being Rainbow Steve only served to make him worse
... Also, I dunno if I mentioned but uh, Light just cannot die until there are no more "negative" emotions. I also doomed him :D
