Did you know that sometimes there are places that are so special that they help to create music?

Cedarmere is one of those places. By no means do I know the whole story or their relation to this place, even though there were friends of friends involved and I suppose I could've asked at any point (but I didn't, sorry!), but a now defunct Long Island band that went by the name of NGHBRS, all the way back in 2013, got permission from the county or "The Friends of Cedarmere" (or both?) and wrote and recorded an album in this old mansion.

This video gives a few quick shots of the inside of the mansion and also I always thought the album was so obviously influenced by the experiences of spending so much time on that plot of land. There was one night, I don't remember exactly the time of year, but it was cold and we brought blankets, and we decided to drive up and just see if we could catch any of whatever meteor shower was happening that night from the safety of reflecting pool.

We walked in and saw lights on in the house. We laid down and listened and had already been fans of the band and immediately understood what was going on (okay, we texted a couple people to fact-check first). It felt like one of those things, one of those nights and moments that only Cedarmere could deliver.

Black Hole - King Neptune

I was working on the Indie Sheep Twitter the other day and while I was listening to my music, I came across “Black Hole” by King Neptune. I was like, “Oh dude, this is crazy good and this sounds like it’s NGHBRS”. And then I thought to myself, “Hey, self, NGHBRS has been gone for awhile. Did they release any new music? You should check, self.”

So after doing some digging and seeing King Neptune and NGHBRS were basically the same people (give or take a few), I did what any self-respecting hard-working blogger would do. I sent out a tweet to get an answer fast because I HAD TO KNOW ASAP. 

Ian Kenny, the lead singer of NGHBRS and now King Neptune, told me, “it's my new project, nghbrs is enjoying the sun for a bit. new look, same great taste.”

And same great taste it is. Even though it’s a different project, it still has that loud and kick-ass sound that NGHBRS became known for.
