NGC 7129 is an emission and reflection nebula located about 3000 light years away towards the constellation Cepheus. This view of the region spans about 40 light years. Buried within the nebula are young stars only a few million years old. Someday, the loose cluster will drift apart and the dust and gas disperse.
Currently, the stars provide the power for the nebula's vibrant colors. The dust clouds stand out prominently in blue as they reflect the starlight. Red regions indicate the presence of Herbig-Haro objects, high energy bodies that are ionizing the surrounding hydrogen. Dust grains are also converting ultraviolet light to paler red filaments through photoluminescence.
