The More You Know...
The more you know... You know, itâs that phrase that everyone has heard sung on public television growing up. Itâs a phrase that I canât help but sing out loud.
I digress, but the gist is this: weâre always growing, always learning new things in life, and I love that about us.
But, there are a few things that I feel that we havenât learned. Â
Like how to be polite (you know, when youâre out in public).
Iâve been reading way too many of those âI canât believe an adult did this,â and âWait till you hear about this grown human blowing up at another one,â lists on Facebook. We can be utter and total jerks. We throw more temper tantrums as adults than I think we did as kids. I mean it.
Getting upset over not getting enough sauces?! Yelling at someone because youâve invaded their personal space? Threatening a teacher because your child is failing or not actually doing their school work or homework?
Really people? Do we really have to be this petty? Donât we have more important things to worry about? Like children and adults going hungry? Veterans going without health care or, I donât know...homes?
What about kids living on the streets? What about the elderly who are abused and die because of negligence from their caregivers (or takers, in these instances)? What about the millions of children living in foster care (because you know, all kids are wanted)?
What about the soldiers who are struggling with PTSD? The mothers who are dealing with depression? The neighbor you have whoâs struggling with suicide, or cutting, or... who knows what?
We live in a world where our teachers arenât paid enough to deal with thirty plus students; where sports are more important than actual education; where kids are graduating without knowing how to change a tire, file taxes, etc.?
This is our world; letâs be the change instead of complaining about whatâs wrong with the world? I know I donât usually post heavy things, but I had to get this off my chest. The next post will probably be more light-hearted!
Enjoy your day, guys, and remember that weâre not the center of the universe!
