Waltz for Debby – Bill Evans
Waltz for Debby is perhaps one of Bill Evans’ most recognised compositions. It was first released on his 1957 debut album New Jazz Conceptions. It is one of the five piano solos on the album, with the other six tracks introducing the piano, bass and drums trio form Evans would become almost synonymous with. Evans recorded it again in 1962, with the trio (Scott LaFaro on bass, and Paul Motian on drums), and released the album named after the song.
This musical portrait of Evans' niece, became a staple of his live repertoire, and one he would continue to play throughout his career.
