“U…uh. I mean! It’s good! Good enough, haha! Hahaha… Can you believe in luck when the Goddess is all about free will and all that tabula rasa stuff?” 

An epitome of hope and hilarity, her own Goddess always did manage to pull out her own glowing snark– as an antithesis to all that godly power she supposedly was holding back. It… kind of made her more human in a way. Claire’s gaze leaped from one colored shard to the next of the church’s stained glass, until her eyes rested upon a familiar figure etched in stone. It was a happy existence, Claire thought to herself. To be free, unchained from good or bad luck.  

“I don’t rely on luck when hard work’s the thing that keeps me going, but I actually think I’ve made a lot more lucky breaks than I deserve.” One more cooking disaster and she was going make Trent a rich man.

“But whether or not that means I’m lucky or just plain unlucky is something debatable, I guess?”

“Well, I think it’s easy to do so! Traditions that remain… are like traces from another time.” She tapped her chin, wondering how she could get this curious answer across. With a low hum, she continued in an excitable burst of energy. “You know! Like… if the world wanted to play detective! If just–” 

She clenched her hand into a fist, as though she were holding a magnifying glass. “If you wanted to investigate, to truly understand, what the world meant to someone of the past, it would be kind to look towards tradition.”

“Someone wanted these events passed down, or someone was sentimental enough to keep the routine going until it became traditional.” 

“Sure, the past is really not my thing. I’d rather focus on the present and work my way forward, instead of back. And heck, a ton of traditions are better off changed. But…” Claire snapped her fingers and shot the asker a finger gun.

“Everything.” 

She sung out clearly, twirling her animal clippers a couple of times on her finger, with a bright grin struck across her face. “When you’re out there living, is there anything more you could want than to change? Every year, you’re gaining new experiences and crystallizing moments you wouldn’t otherwise have. Every day, you’re making a different footstep in the sand.” 

“Every second, you’re already a different you.”

“It’s cheesy, I know.” Rubbing her nose with a side of bashfulness, Claire let out an nonchalant chuckle. “But I mean it.”

“I want to believe in change. It’s what makes me, me.” Musing for a moment, she fell into a comfortable silence. 

Minori was unfortunately one of those types of people that always had to satisfy their sweet tooth. 

Whenever a craving for something sweet overcame her, she knew there was no getting anything done until she had whatever it was she wanted. Some times it was as simple as a chocolate bar; other times it involved just about half a day of baking. 

Today, unfortunately, she found she had no idea exactly what it was she wanted, only that she’d most likely be better off going to a bakery (a shop that Oaktree unfortunately did not have.) 

it did not take her too long to reach Flowerbud, the young woman thankful she had gotten through most of her chores already and would not be returning to a days full of work after this sweet whim she was having. 

Few times she had been to Flowerbud, and when she finally discovered the location of the bakery, she took mental note of it to make sure she could easily find her way next time. 

She entered the shop, the aromas of baked goods pulling her further in and towards the display. From sight and smell alone, she could only hope the taste exceeded her expectations. 

She took a few minutes to think about what exactly she wanted, how much of whatever it was she might want, and if perhaps she may want to bring some home as well. 

Well, the answer to the last question was certainly obvious, but she had taken a bit longer to decide on the two that preceded it. But when an idea came to mind, she quickly came up to the counter, calling out to the attendant.

“Excuse me? I was wondering...if you happened to sell cannoli here?”

Oh goodie! I really love cinnamon rolls! Though I can only ever eat half of one...
