* Masami Hosono is a Queer hair stylist and salon owner of Vacancy Project, an all inclusive hair salon in the East Village. today she shared her story on her instagram of the abuse she endured at Shizen Brooklyn, a popular Japanese hair salon in Williamsburg. they were extremely homophobic to her and did it so freely because they were sponsoring her visa, they would threaten her that she’d have to go back home to Japan if she didn’t comply with their demands to dress and act a certain way at work.

I have suggested many people on here to Shizen and even took my boyfriend recently to get a haircut there. But I cannot support a business so abusive and homophobic, and I want to let everyone on here know. there are so many other great salons in NYC that aren’t owned by homophobic assholes. if I sent you to Shizen, drop them please and let’s all move on to Masami’s Vacancy Project and support a very talented Queer business owner 🏳️‍🌈
