The whole shipdiscourse's bullshit, since neither side is willing to engage in a normal discussion and most likely doesn’t even want to try to properly understand the other side. The very terminology used by the anti-fics and pro-fics camps two extremes and a (false) dichotomy, boils down to the same mistake: what does “the influence of fiction on reality” even mean?
Ask whether food affects people and watch as two ppl start arguing with each other because they interpreted the question differently. The Shipdiscussion feels much the same, because I don’t see the point of this argument from the procoms about “well, you don’t go around shooting people around you after CS and Dota.”
People who know even a little about the subject and have read even a little bit understand that the influence exists and that it’s uneven. But how many people are there like that? The overwhelming majority will continue to spew fucking bullshit to the masses.
