"From a scientific and philosophical point of view, machine learning is interesting because developing our understanding of it entails developing our understanding of the principles that underlie intelligence." - Goodfellow et al., (2016), https://lnkd.in/g938n_M Here, we must dissociate intelligence and consciousness. We are working hard on replicating human 'intelligence' into machines. We forget about how important it is to work on understanding how our own consciousness work. Which is a necessity if we ever want AIs to be really 'intelligent'. Unfortunately, right now the most powerful AIs will only replicate what the creator teaches/asks it, which is both very dangerous and makes it kind of stupid. Let's not forget about neuroscience research. In my opinion, we should invest a lot more into improving our understanding of intelligence and consciousness than in the development of current data-driven and 'dumb' AIs. The end goal here is to create something good that will improve the quality of life for everyone and not only create algorithms to analyze data and improve the life of the richest.
