Cassian reminds me of the boys from the virgin suicides
If you don't know the virgin suicides is a book and a movie. I saw the movie in my middle school emo years and recently stumbled across it again. It's about a group of sisters who commit suicide told through the eyes of a group of adolescent boys who's curiosity is driven by their own lust.
The boys look at the struggling sisters like they are incomprehensible beautiful creatures because they are blinded by their own fantasies and desires. I saw a good analysis of it that describes how their struggles to communicate with the girls is that of their own making.
I feel like cassian also does these things when it comes to Nesta. The only thing is, he wants to get to know her and to help her but unlike the boys when she responds in a way that doesn't correlate to what he hopes her to be or wants her to be he reacts in frustration and takes that frustration out on her or he chooses to push clearly defined boundaries. She then, of course, becomes defensive and reacts by either trying to get him to leave her alone or striking with cruel words in hopes to deter him.
I just think cassian would stop thinking about who he wants her to be, how he wants her to act, and what he thinks she should be grateful for; if he just accepted who she is, her actions, and desires without judgement. He would be in a much better position to help her.
In the books the girls commit suicide not because their parents don't love them, but because of their inability to live up to their parents expectations and the subsequent lack of control of their lives because of it.
My biggest fear for nesta is that in the next book she'll be placed in a situation like this. Where Feyre's desire to fix her sister through force and push her ideals onto her only drives her further into despair.
