So yeah. I got a job working in the Archives of UMUC and it’s been a lot of fun. The hours are flexible, to the point where you just have to make sure you work 40 hours per week. And my 3 coworkers are all really nice. We happen to cover the whole spectrum, too. There’s the Elderly and kind woman who’ll talk your head off about tracking down signed books. There’s the Middle aged ‘boss’ who dgaf about anything, so long as we respect the material and get work done. The just-finishing-Masters Mid-twenty-year-old who works at the National Archives so is secretly appalled by our relative lack of organization.
And me, the Black teenage college Freshman everyone tries to make the work sound so much more exciting around bc they don’t know I asked for the job.
I’d actually enjoy working there once my summer contract runs out, but alas, I’ve got classes and couldn’t contribute anything meaningful during the schoolyear. as I said, the hours are fine, I’m having fun, and since this is a paid, but voluntary job, I’ve never 'worked’ a day in my life. And it’s completely AYOP. There’s no rush for anything at all.
