I was not even aware that it was Charlastor week tbh 😅😅 But while I would love to participate, I am terrible at keeping track on this kind of events (have been trying for years with Mermay, never managed to keep the pace because IRL lolol).

critic: what’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about writing?Well. I went to a writing school, so I have a whole bunch of writing stuff I’ve internalized over those years, that I really can’t sort of separate from the whole experience of being there. But getting that constant feedback from teacher / other students was really important in starting to notice my own pitfalls and places I was good at, because ofc when you’re a preteen who always gets that A+ on all the writing assignments at school is really easy to be like “I’m the greatest!” (altho that is not bad per se, gotta get that confidence from somewhere :P)Technically the most important piece of writing advice has been sort of internalizing that “said” and character names become sort of silent, so repeating them is a-ok, and can help to keep the flow of the story intact. Not actually sure how much of that is relevant to writing in Finnish, since repeating names is often required because no gendered pronouns.In terms of keeping my passion up, a lot of of it has to do with allowances. Being allowed to take time off from writing, being allowed to be self-indulgent in language and plot. Also a lot of dispelling that creative genius stuff, like I am allowed to plan and consciously work on themes and motifs in my stories and they don’t have to sprung fully formed from my subconscious or whatever. Having been able to change my outlook to writing as a craft has made learning to be better and noticing where I have room for improvement a lot easier. So I guess that’s a good starting point.
