The blonde walking in front of Clem was one she recognised even from the back, and yet she barely knew her anymore at all. It was made all the stranger that despite that latter fact, Clem had heard the awful news. Was it her place to know? Probably not. Another day she might have followed quietly behind until she reached home, but Clem knew grief well; she was living through it right now. Which was what prompted her to call out, “Nell?”
