is it officially over and my autistic ass is now hyper fixated on the alt right and fuentes . with that being said, how do you think he got to be this way??? i keep trying to look for clues but im just met with more and more dead ends, i wouldn't be surprised if someone had a role in nick's destruction besides himself (e.g his mom bc shes already known for having an overlap when it comes to the eating disorder thing + believes it to be normal?)
it's not over, it's only just started 😏 you should accept your fate and make a blog yk... as for that loaded question: you’re not alone in hitting dead ends, nick is frustratingly opaque when you try to dissect how he got this way, despite him being so open about himself.
i'll go through some of my main observations from his early life bc thats what i like to look into, but ik other people like to look at it from the perspective of his how his ideology has developed during his career and the fall outs he's had. soo if you want to reblog about that, i am happily inviting you to rn bc this post is gonna be pre-career
note: obviously this is gonna be me psychoanalysing him and being creepy + parasocial LMAO
from what we know, he had a normal, middle-class upbringing, loving parents (there's the csa theory, but i don't think there's nearly enough proof for me to confidently factor that in). when it comes to his family (family post coming soon btw) and his political views from a young age, his parents are obviously both conservative and catholic. i remember, he told a story about how it was an inside joke in their family that they wouldn't go to applebees because his dad said it was 'black people fare' and his parents had some saying about olive garden which contains the n-word. from the way he describes it, it sounds like his family was more normie conservative but very racist. obviously, that's far from the main factor in this, as loads of people grow up in racist/conservative households and don't end up well... being nick fuentes (e.g. his twin sister)
how i read their family dynamic is that he's definitely his mums favourite and melissa is his dad's favourite. i see nick's mum as being pretty overbearing, definitely the type of mum who's a bit too in love with her son, as we know they have a very close relationship. she watches all his shows, is his biggest supporter and is now ideologically aligned with him. i see his dad as being pretty emotionally absent, and he's spoken about how he never really related to his dad as a kid, his dad loved sport and tried to make him do baseball, which he sucked ass at, therefore he lacked a relatable male role model. or actually just anyone at all in his life whom he related to
when he's spoken about his childhood in general, it's pretty evident that mental illness has affected him from a very young age. he wasn't a happy child, he felt trapped in his body, out of place and lonely. this, to me, suggests a heavy genetic/biological component in why he is the way he is. he's recounted how mental illness and addiction runs in his family multiple times, and unfortunately, i think he pulled the short end of the stick with that one.
ofc a lot of his traits are consistent with borderline or narcissistic personality disorder, like emotional instability, an inflated sense of self-importance and black-and-white thinking, which could have made him more vulnerable to extremist ideology. these traits might help explain his fierce attachment to rigid beliefs and his tendency to externalize blame rather than reflect inwardly. additionally, this inflated sense of self importance and idea that he is such an isolated intellectual who nobody can relate to, is directly related to his bitterness and resentment toward basically anyone. he is very much an isolated hermit who hates everyone 😭 this links into why he latched onto politics very young. he didn't feel like he belonged, so he became obsessed with being right, with being the smartest one in the room, with being significant.
when he was a teen, we know he leaned more libertarian and the internet definitely played a role in his further radicalisation, but idk i'm kind of still fleshing out how exactly that happened, i feel like idk enough about his early career/the internet at that time to give you a good or specific enough reason. but certainly in the way when a kid who already feels smarter than everyone around him finally finds a space where he can prove it. and from then on, i guess it turned into this weird cycle of becoming more radical and problematic, as he let loose because he'd already lost everything
also we could talk about why he feels the way he does about women, which i haven't really talked about, but i don't totally understand it myself. it's a common theme amongst groypers to intensely hate women, yet love their mum, like nick. something something madonna whore dichotomy, control/power dynamics. but in fear of sounding like i'm psychoanalysing some random groyper who might be reading this rn, i will not get into that. but maybe they can offer some perspective (i'm interested)
but yeah, tldr: i don’t think his story is one of pure choice or pure circumstance, it’s a complex intersection of genetics, mental illness, upbringing and the seductive clarity of extremism
