playing with the ncloth and passive collider to create this
homework assignment involving ndynamics in maya
nDynamics
Today I played around with nCloth settings to make a flag look like it's blowing in the wind. I also messed around with Gravity to get some... interesting results.
nCloth
n stands for nucleus.
Using ndynamics, I created this ncloth, I took a normal flat square, gave it 20 x 20 faces, top left corner says nDynamics. I went to nMesh > Create nCloth.
The object the cloth is falling over and the floor I went to nMesh > Create Passive Collider. For the object to fall I need to put in gravity, Fields > Gravity.
For the animation to play for a long time, put in a lot more frames, in that screen shot I have 500 in all.
To get the cloth to drag away as if being pulled, select a corner by going into vertex mode, go to nConstraint > Transform and then drag it to where you want the cloth to go.

Happy Canada Day Internet! Nothing planned for the day so I thought to experiment with cloth simulation. Have been at Maya for three years now but had yet to do much experimentation with nCloth and nDynamics and decided to make it patriotic. Went off of a solid tutorial I found on Youtube and I think it turned out fairly well. Going to experiment with it some more eventually. But in any case, I wish a Happy Canada Day to all of my fellow Canucks and happy Tuesday to pretty much everyone else!
