"mark, you're seriously stressing me out right now," you say, turning to look at him head on. your knee brushes his in the process and he jumps like you shocked him.

he'd invited you over for your weekly saturday movie night, something he's usually very excited for, but he's been uncharacteristically nervous tonight. you're halfway through your second movie and you swear he's been bouncing his knee since the second you sat down on the couch together three whole hours ago.

"sorry," he murmurs, his hands on his knees and fingers curling into his joggers. it looks like it takes all of the effort in the world to stop his leg from shaking. he literally cannot bring himself to look you in the eye.

"are you, like... alright? do you feel sick?"

you're staring at him, examining him, trying to see if he looks pale or feverish when he looks up at you suddenly. he's viciously anxious, eyes a little hazy as he pushes out "i really like you," but said so fast that the syllables all slur together.

but you're fluent in markese, affectionately named weeks into your budding friendship, and you understand every word anyways. and you wonder why he was so nervous to tell you this in the first place; you've been trying to make it obvious for months that you're in love with him too.

there's some time to make up for.
