Might I Interest You In Some Conversation? || Castle & Thomas
Maddie Thomas didn't much care for the staff room. Every time she wound up in the old, almost 21st century looking room, she found that every single teacher would turn to look at her and then go back to whatever conversations they had been conducting. She always hated that moment of undivided attention that was afforded to her, preferring instead to slip in unnoticed, grab a cup of coffee, and get the hell out before someone could force her into some inane conversation about which student had done what. For the most part, she avoided the staff room regardless, but today she had no other choice but to spend every single one of her breaks in the room. Her office was having some environmental malfunctions (aka: the computer had gone haywire and was causing snow to fall from the ceiling) and the maintenance staff had ordered her out until they could get the problem back under control.
It came as a bit of a shock to Maddie when she entered the staff room around lunchtime to find the cramped room to be completely devoid of anyone else, save for one other teacher. He was younger man than she, with a head of thick dark hair, and odd (entirely out of date & out of style) glasses that framed his face and somehow made him look older than he was. Deciding it'd do no harm to try and strike up a conversation with him, Maddie poured out a second cup of coffee in addition to her own, carrying it over and holding it out for him to take. "Uh, hi. I figured you could use this." She jerked her head slightly in the direction of the cup. She plopped down in the chair opposite him, taking a note of just how skinny he looked. "I'm Madeleine Thomas, and you are?" It seemed like the appropriate way to start a conversation, she just hoped that he was a teacher she could get along with, unlike most of the other ones she'd come across in her tenure.
