AH, Soreana. One of Leblanc’s finest pupils, and one she is particularly fond of. Soreana serves as her hand in influencing house Du Couteau from afar-- so she has proven herself both loyal and useful to the Black Rose. 

With a curious tilt of the head, Swain pocketed the gold swiftly without a second thought, a small hmph soon following. Perhaps he had been a little too heavy handed with his attempt at affection. Or perhaps Talon considered his generosity patronising or belittling. An understandable thought.

“Handouts. A peculiar word to use for someone who works themselves to the bone.”

He notices the assassin avoid the sight of his demonic limb, immediately stowing it away within the flaps of his jacket. It bothered him not.

“Handouts often imply that the individual receiving them did not earn or deserve them. Do you consider yourself not worthy? After all you have provided for Noxus?”

The General stops his writing for a brief moment, rising ominously out of his armchair as he approached them whilst still twirling the pen in his hand.

“Talon. How good to see you.”

His demonic claw digs into his pocket and fishes out a hefty amount of gold, holding it out to them. The faintest of smiles appears on Swain’s face, but nothing more.

jayce doesn’t talk about how he was raised or the orphanage much. those were perhaps the least fortunate days of his life and as he has a public persona to keep, he usually tries to leave out that backstory of his—while it’d be a good selling point, a hero with such tragic backstory, such riveting tale of overcoming hardships through his (intellectual) merits, he… doesn’t like having it be sold that way. 

that comes out for a very simple fact: he likes being admired, but not being pitied.
