Nba Final The Toronto Raptors won the NBA championship
The Toronto Raptors are the first NBA Champion in history. The Canadians prevailed in Game 6 in another crime thriller at the Golden State Warriors 114: 110. Kawhi Leonard was awarded the Finals MVP, but the best players in Game 6 were Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet. Klay Thompson was injured in the third quarter. Steve Kerr completed his center bingo and placed the fifth different center in the Starting Five in Kevon Looney, but there was no change at Toronto. The atmosphere was meanwhile electrifying, even before the tip-off, there were loud Warriors battle cries, which let Kyle Lowry silenced with a personal 11: 2 run to start. In addition to the guard, Pascal Siakam was hot from a distance, he also hit two fast threes.
The Warriors were meanwhile not given anything by the three-way, Stephen Curry remained almost 11 minutes without throw, but jumped Klay Thompson with 10 points in the quarter in the breach and made sure that the Raptors could not settle early. DeMarcus Cousins also helped produce the Warriors, with Toronto only leading 33:32 after a quarter. The second leg kept the high level to a limited extent, with Toronto again showing slight benefits as the Raptors played near-perfect defense in some possessions, forcing the Warriors to throw heavily. Attacking it was not good, Golden State now prevented open triples. Kawhi Leonard was unremarkable until then, but Lowry had already collected 21 counters and 6 assists. Toronto went into the break with a 60-57 lead.
Klay Thompson injured on Dunk's knee attempt
But now Kawhi was awake and quickly scored 6 points, but also Curry hit two threes. Lowry conceded his fourth foul and had to go to the bench. And it was not surprising that the Warriors took over the lead just a few turns later, thanks in part to another Klay threesome. However, the shock followed. In transition, Thompson climbed up to the dunk, which Danny Green stopped with a by no means unfair foul. Thompson's left knee, however, twisted unhappily at the landing and the guard first went into the cabin. That would have meant the end for Klay if he had not taken the free throws. So he came back, swapped both freebies and left the game. A late Raptors run shortened again to 88:86 in favor of the Dubs.
VanVleet leads Toronto to fourth in the championship
It started the hot phase for Golden State, as Curry needed a break and Thompson was now officially out. The Warriors bit but firmly, even if Fred VanVleet ran hot. It got wild, it got hectic, only VanVleet seemed to keep his nerve and hit another threesome four minutes before the end to 104:10 lead for the guests. Lowry went down, but Draymond Green shortened again to three points with a hugely important triple, cousins made it just under a minute before the end by driving layup even more tense (108: 109). However, Siakam had a drive against Green before the Raptors fouled Curry on the drive and remained cool 18 seconds from time. That could not be said of the Raptors. The Warriors did not foul, but kept pushing until Danny Green threw the Spalding out of the way. Golden State still had 9.1 seconds to force a game 7. The ball went to curry, but his threesome did not fall. After that the Spalding was free for a long time, in the end it got the Warriors, but Golden State wanted a break, they had no more. That meant a technical foul and ball for the Raptors. Kawhi hit the freebie, then the rejoicing began, even if Leonard was fouled again. He did both, the Toronto Raptors were finally allowed to celebrate their first championship. Best Man of the Raptors was Lowry, who ended up with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. The guests also received production from Siakam (26), Leonard (22, 7/16 FG), Fred VanVleet (22, 5/11 threes) and Serge Ibaka (15). For the Warriors, Thompson (30 points, 8/12 FG in 32 minutes), Curry (21, 6/16 FG) and Andre Iguodala (22) were the best scorers, while Draymond Green (11, 19 rebounds, 13 assists, 3 Steals) again filled the box score properly. Kawhi Leonard was voted Finals MVP for the second time in his career following the match.
The most important statistics
Golden State Warriors vs. Toronto Raptors 110: 114 ( BOXSCORE ), Series: 2-4 Kyle Lowry just needed 2:12 minutes in the first quarter to reach 11 points. The Guard has never been able to score so well in the double digits, neither in the playoffs nor in the regular season. It was also a record for the finals since the ABA and the NBA were merged in 1977. Not only Lowry set off like the fire department. The Raptors did not hesitate to fire from the distance and scored seven threes in just 14 tries in the first quarter. But the Warriors were better off after that and only allowed four distance throw in the second leg. After the change, the guests cooled down visibly, only one was accurate and heard the name VanVleet (5/11 total), after Lowry the second match winner for Toronto. What kept the Warriors in play (in the first half) were free throws. 12 of the 14 freebies to break were taken by Curry and Thompson, which was mainly due to some stupid plays of the Raptors (Kawhi!). The Raptors fouled four times in the first half of the jump throw, which may not actually happen at this level. After the change, however, held the free throws Toronto over water, especially in the minutes without Lowry. In contrast to the Splash Brothers, the dubs hit only a weak 5/14 from the line. The Warriors once again had their problems with the ball talk. As so often this season, the Californians committed some unnecessary ball losses. Golden State was lucky that the guests could not always punish this consistently. Draymond Green was responsible for 8 of the 16 turnovers (15 Raptors points), some of them were to the hair and destroyed in the fourth quarter the momentum of the dubs. Toronto threw the ball away 12 times. And finally, a stat to the tragic hero Klay Thompson. His threesome in these finals? 57.5 percent (23/40). His absence in the final stages was unfortunately essential and influenced the outcome of the series.
Golden State Warriors vs. Toronto Raptors: The Voices
Kawhi Leonard (Raptors): "Toronto welcomed me here with open arms, they told me to just play basketball, I'm not a big person, and in the end, it worked." Kyle Lowry (Raptors): "Incredible, I play basketball for my sons, they have a good life, it's just crazy, Canada, we brought you the title!"
The star of the game
Kyle Lowry. The senior Raptor crowned his career with a towering game and associated championship title. All of the criticisms that plagued Lowry in the playoffs over the years wiped the Guard off the table. Especially in the first half everything went over Lowry, while Kawhi was partially invisible in offense. The threesomes were sitting, the drive was always aggressive, but he found by smart plays again and again his teammates. In the fourth quarter, Fred VanVleet was the Raptors MVP.
