Tag Game: 10 Qâs Tag Tagged By: @owlsofstarlightâ Rules: Answer the questions, write 10 more, tag ten people.
1. which character has the most recognizable look? Like if you boiled them down to a few lines of bold colors, who would still be recognizable?
Oceanus. Itâs stark.
2. How do your characters feel about dancing?
Khalil loves dancing. Heâs probably the quickest to pick up a beat and almost as quick to invent his own dance moves, which disrupt any patterns of other participants around him. When he grooves to the music, people ought to duck.
The other prominent dancers among the crew are Zinnia, Alena, and Lucrecia. Not coincidentally, these are the noble girls who have formal dancing education.
3. Would your story work better as a movie, tv show, or video game?
Probably as a TV show. Preferably animated by, like, an anime studio.
4. What bit of your story would you want to see put into a visual format the most? (character, scene, scenery, etc?)
I really, really would want to see some of the fight scenes. Particularly when Sirsha shows her shapeshifting chops and the boss battle with her begins--which results in everyone else busting out the biggest guns in their arsenal.
5. Do any of your characters have strong motifs?
Oceanus has a strong association with snow and winter. Like, Khalil nicknamed him âSnowballâ as a joke, but he eventually finds that heâs got serious chops as an ice-wielding mage.
Also, the entire Brandt family is partially or completely associated with fire. The extent to which this comes off as creepy depends on which person youâre talking about.
6. Think fast! someone throws something at your character for them to catch. What is it and do they?
Khalil catches a book thrown at his head. Why? Because he probably bothered his twin while she was trying to do something else, and the book was the closest object on hand.
7. Do your characters believe in luck? and do they have good or bad?
Tirane believes in luck and fortune, and this bothers people like Lumina, who tend to think that fortune is in building circumstances that allow favorable results. Itâs an approach that presupposes that human effort can beat out circumstances.
Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnât, sometimes steel sheep fall from the sky and you just have to live with it.
8. How would other people describe your character vs how theyâre described in story?
Grand Duchess Lumina Lambert has a reputation for being the ultimate hardass, a juggernaut on the battlefield and the most powerful woman to walk Alaris aside from her own sister, the Empress. There are those in the country that whisper that Kaltekas has two queens where there once were kings and princes. One in the north and one in the east. People idealize both of them for their strength and associate strength (wrongly) with morally upright qualities. Kaltekas isnât that far from its days of dynastic struggle.
But really, Luminaâs the daughter of farmers who went off to be a soldier. Sheâs fairly ordinary underneath the uncanny stare and the apparent death aura she gives off.
(Sheâs asked about that, and Naviyd isnât sure how to tell her that only her husband and kids are fully immune to it.)
9. Why is your character a coward?
Khalil has the self-awareness to realize that running away from responsibility makes him cowardly, even if heâs not afraid of physical danger. Heâs more scared of emotional honesty and being relied upon, and doesnât really confront his issues.
Contrast Oceanus, who believes heâs a coward because he basically has PTSD and associates feeling fear with utter destruction. He papers over the cracks with aggression in the hopes no one notices.
10. Why do people think your character is better than they are?
Sirsha lies to people and uses mind control when the first option doesnât seem to take. Sheâs a nightmare masquerading as a benevolent overlord.
People think Naviyd is more scary than he actually is because he cultivates his reputation, with the hopes that people will be a lot less likely to conspire against Lumina if they think he knows everything. Also, he totally used to make a career out of shooting Kaltekan generals in the throat.
Happy Storyteller Saturday đ Oh no, itâs a travesty!!! Your characters are trapped in a room with the only way out blocked by an angry skunk. How ever will they escape??? -MayvinWrites
Teleportation exit: Tirane
Breaks a wall: Naviyd, Lumina, Alena, Riyaz
Negotiates safe passage: Zinnia, Khalil, Keyah, Seong-min,
Gets sprayed: Oceanus, Rashid
Somehow is not in the room what the hell: Mitra
LUMINA, ARNO, AND NAVIYD DISCUSS SEX, SEXUALITY, AND FAILED MARRIAGES
Side note: All of the adult characters here are sort of in their mid/late twenties. Naviyd is the oldest, then Arno, then Lumina.
Khalil is about five-ish and Lumina is pregnant with the twins Alastair and Oriana.
Luminaâs office, despite its overladen shelves of books and comfortable furniture strewn all around, lay in complete disarray. The three occupants had long since pushed all the chairs and the meeting table against the walls and spread rugs, blankets, and pillows here and there, resulting in a wide, flat meeting space inside of another. Though the rest of the decorations were still hers, the arrangement was more like a comfortable gathering inside a desert-living Mishik tent than a Kaltekan solar.Â
The reason for this was lying sprawled on the floor, feet close to the fire to stave off the Gabilan winter chill, and under at least three blankets. He was facedown in the gap between two pillows, arms pillowing his head as he buried his face against the rug. He was probably breathing.

Rules: Pick a character from your WIP, and have them answer these 15 questions, then tag 15 people!
1. What is your full name?
âKhalil ibn Naviyd al-Fulan! Though I guess if you wanted to be extremely technical and kind of a pedant, you could keep going back through Babaâs family as far as you wanted. Past a certain point, even he loses track.âÂ
2. What does your full name mean?
âKhalil, son of Naviyd, of the town called Fulan. The townâs name is probably longer, and I kind of left out Jad, but he doesnât have a Mishik name anymore. Baba says he picked the name âCopernicusâ for some reason, but at that point he was already on a ship to go shoot generals in Alanris, so I guess they arenât talking.â
3. What are your nicknames/other names?
âNicknames? Well, most people just call me Khalil. I only break out the full name if I want to make a point to someone. Sometimes strangers have already heard of Baba before I ever meet them.
âI honestly think most people think of me more as âthat one wild Mishik boyâ if they donât know my name. Iâve also lied a few times and said my name was Sohrab or something, but those only need to work for a few seconds.â
4. Whats your gender?
âIâve always thought of myself as a boy, or a man once I got older. Mitra said the trick is that I absorbed all the gender stuff in the womb from my twin. Which is her. Itâs what makes me so charming.â
âDamn annoying is what it makes you.â
âPffff, I love you too.â
5. Whats your sexuality?
âIâm into basically everyone equally. But Iâm not really into...uh, romance? Kinda canât stand it. I donât really want to âsettle downâ with anybody, ether. Iâm kind of a live-and-let-love guy, which pertains to me, too.â
(Heâs aromantic pansexual.)
6. Where are you from?
âGabilan! Itâs this city in the mountains way the hell out in the middle of nowhere on the edges of Kaltekan territory. Weâve got magic--magic people, magic sheep, magic holes in the sky that spit out monsters every week--and also plain old everything. And a lake.
âMost people expect Mishik to be from somewhere else--blah blah racism--but my parents went there after the Kaltekan Civil War because it was being put together by Babaâs friend. It didnât quite work out that way, but hey, nobody ever made a cake without breaking a mountain or two.
âWhatâs with the funny look?â
7. How old are you?
âTwenty! And I bet you nobody in my old group thought Iâd do it with all my fingers. They owe me money now!â
8. What is your magic form/species?
âIâm Mishik, which means Iâm a human whoâs descended from the people chosen by the gods. Apparently. Baba never really said so, but basically weâre the people who are way more likely to be mages than everybody else. Something like one in four of us, and that counts for anybody whoâs even part-Mishik, too.â
âThat said, uh. Most mages arenât exactly like me. I get to have a spirit yelling in my head about responsibility. Iâm not sure what it is, exactly, but itâs loud as fuck and definitely has a lot of scales. Itâs where my magic comes from.
âA lot of people have Others, but most of them have them there. Theyâre real and touchable. I just get a nag.â
9. What does your human form look like?
âCanât you tell? Iâm a human person.
âFine, fine, Iâll give it a spin. Iâm five-foot-seven, ish? My skinâs pretty dark, and my hairâs black and curly unless I fix it somehow. Eyes? I have them. Blueish-green and with the Mishik iris rings, since thatâs a thing weâre known for, and Iâve got the best smile in town. Any town. Just ask!
âHmmm. Iâve also got three piercings in each ear. Iâd get a nose ring if Baba didnât already have one, since that makes me look more like him. Therefore: old. And I guess I dress like a Kaltekan, but robes are a pain! If I canât climb a cliff in it, Iâll hold off until Iâm ordered to wear it.
âUnless itâs a party. Then let me break out the everything.â
10. Whatâs your aesthetic?
âWhatâs an aesthe--Oh. Hm. You know, thatâs a good question. I like plenty of things, but itâs been a while since I had to think about what defines me.â
âI think Iâd start with stones. Gemstones, sure, but also sandstone and granite rock faces and things like that. But before you even get out of my magic preferences, weâd have to talk about pretty patterns on silk and in flowers, and absolutely mirrors have to be in there somewhere. Smoke, too. Probably a ton of other things Iâm forgetting.â
11. Whoâs your best friend?
âItâs a tie! Two of my favorite people in the world are Oceanus and Allie, and theyâre sort of like a weird cross between friends and siblings. I make them want to roll their eyes so hard they fall right out of their heads.
âThough nowadays, I like the idea of expanding my friend-circle. Tiraneâs a good one for that. Or horizons. I forget which.â
12. Would you ever get a piercing/tattoo?
âWay ahead of you! Ear piercings so far. Navel later, I think. No nose rings ever, unless Baba finally admits heâs past forty and takes his out.â
13. When are you happiest?
âWhen on an adventure! Itâs even better with friends.â
14. Whatâs your biggest secret?
â...Despite what youâd think, I actually do take some things seriously.â
âAnd Iâm aware enough of my shortcomings to know thatâs exactly what my Other wants me to fucking figure out. Itâs just...not something I can do right now.
âAnd that bastard doesnât deserve to win at anything over me.âÂ
15. What was your first impression of ______?
âOf Riyaz? Sleepyhead. Turns out he actually has a personality when itâs not two hours past midnight, and that personality is a great one to hang out with if youâre in a lazy mood.
âTiraneâs fun, which I got right the first time we met!
âOceanus was this half-size feral child who literally bit me once. But weâre friends now, and itâs pretty fun to hang out and fail horribly at fishing while he laughs at me.
âOh, and I absolutely loved Alena the first time I saw her. She was a shy little girl who literally hid from me behind her aunt. And then it turned out she read better than I do and wanted to fix that problem for me, and then I was the one hiding. Itâs quite the reversal!
âAnd I had to get a second impression of Mitra, because Mother botched the first one. Mitraâs fun to piss off all the time. But I wish we had more time together as kids, you know?
Tagging: @abalisk, @writer-and-artist27, @ezzelbean and anyone else whoâd like to do this. :D
answer any question that contains a 1,7,or 5 but only if they contain only one of them once or all three for the 175 questions
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY QUESTIONS I ANSWERED
BUT ITâS DONE
Naviyd ibn Copernicus al-Fulan, back in his days among his motherâs herds. Much later on, he ends up being an accomplished assassin, a spymaster, Luminaâs best friend, the father of twins, and basically the closest thing Terramir has to a sniper. Heâs also kind of hilarious. Gotta keep a sense of humor in the dark. I donât care anymore that the bow is crooked. Itâs been giving me shit for days.
