Aspie here. I have anxiety and I was wondering if that could have an affect on burnouts? Also, could a burnout be so severe as to cause other health problems?
Yes, and yes. Anxiety makes everyone’s energy and capacity to deal with things lower, and can definitely lead to autistic burnout. And burnout, I imagine, can break down immune functions and make you more vulnerable to physical as well as mental illness — this is tangentially related but I swear that one of the reasons I’m so susceptible to colds is because my most common stim (which comes out more often when I’m anxious) is running my hands over my face!
