Thinking about Eon's master and his inspiration, with no real character to him other than he was a master I wanted to take a swing at it.
One of the things that stood out to me was that Natty Bumppo, the basis for the name, had a string of epithets attached to him. "Straight-Tongue", "The Pigeon", "Lap-Ear", and finally "Deerslayer"
Which made me think that perhaps Nattybumpo was a portal master brought up during a time of war and his magic was more offensive based.
Perhaps that's why it took Eon portaling him to finally teach him magic because he was scared of turning someone else into a warrior when what they needed was a protector
