Though this is not traditional Seminole hairstyle, I embrace my Native American blood as often as I can through braiding. Most days, I typically do the long braids, but since I recently cut my hair down to 16 inches, my hair is now too short to do the traditional braids. So I went with the skinny braids today. Seminole women traditionally wore either whorls or box hair.

Please note: Asking about blood quantum is extremely rude. Would you ask someone what percentage of black they were? No? Then don't do it to us. Blood quantum, and the tests required by many tribes, were created by the government so that one day they would be able to "breed out" the People and take back reservation lands and "benefits". Our tribe does not require this test to register because being of the People is about culture, growing with that culture and following it. And saying that you are "a quarter this and an eighth that" really does nothing for your identity unless you are going to do more than surface learn about that culture.
