A lot of people just don't speak english that well. And I personally blame the film industry guess if kids would grow up watching movies and shows in english, which I did a little as a kid cuz we traveled a lot and often there just wasn't german tv so i would watch cartoons in english and my dad had some movies were he told us that we couldn't appreciate them unless we watched them in english with sub, they would be better at it.
A lot of people are also just lazy. Like my sisters boyfriend can speak and understand english well but he just finds it easier to watch movies in german which leads to my sister having to watch movies twice once with him in german and once with me in english.

Be glad that you get subs. Here we get them dubbed and that sucks.
But thankfully the cinema near me shows most of the big movies (fingers crossed for Maze Runner) in english as well. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie in the cinema in german and I'm kind of glad about it.
