How It Happened!
To capture the geometric ardor of Kathryn Gustafson’s landscape, I took to the sky. Hovering in a doorless helicopter over Roissy-en-Brie, the challenge was balancing the vibration of the rotor with the stillness of the Nikon F2A.Much like a Glass composition, the Morbras landscape is defined by its repetitive, fluid geometry.
From the helicopter, I wasn't just looking for a shape; I was looking for the visual rhythm of the earth.Photographed on 35mm Fuji Film Stock, push-processed +1 to hold the luminance. This work was later selected for the Modern Views auction at Sotheby’s New York to benefit the Philip Glass House, and subsequently published in the Assouline Contemporary Luxury edition (ISBN: 978-2759404674).Selected for the permanent archival volume by Assouline, Modern Views chronicles this historic auction.
The inclusion of Morbras Meeting Point Nø.1 ensures its place in the 21st-century canon of landscape architecture and fine art photography.The Modern Views project served as a rare intersection of visionaries.
My study of Kathryn Gustafson’s Morbras landscape was not merely a commission, but a contribution to a collective tribute for the Philip Glass House. It stands alongside the works of 80 of the world's most influential architects and artists, curated to celebrate the enduring harmony between the built environment and the captured frame.
