[ sob ] Your muse finds mine in tears, crying from grief
Socializing and reef patrols and busying himself could really only work for so long; eventually the friends would leave or have elsewhere to be, he would swim as far as his neighborhood reached and back, and sooner or later the moments turned painfully silent again and the inescapable quiet descended as Bruce was left with his own thoughts.
Granted, this didn’t happen all the time, and quite frankly hadn’t happened in awhile. But... he’d been reminded lately that Father’s Day was coming up. Try as Bruce may to ignore it and treat it like every other day, it still left an aching, bitter feeling in his chest. That indescribable, creeping feeling of dread— like a shadow following him endlessly and draining him every moment he dared acknowledge it.
Crying was still good, though. It was never frowned upon during the group sessions— feelings needed to be shared, not bottled up. It was a healthy release. An emotional reset. Only Bruce didn’t count on anyone being in the same shipwreck during that time.
He could only see a vague blob of red through the tears, and the shark blinked, sheepishly. “Ah, sorry, mate,” Bruce said, sniffling. “Didn’t think anyone was in ‘ere.”
