I've been thinking recently, all things considered Yuuno is a pretty good magical mascot, he's not perfect, but he's trying his best. Nanoha didn't even know magic existed before they met, so he was teaching her like tutorial level stuff, it's just that Nanoha learns way too fast and is not afraid to try new shit by herself. I think he doesn't really know what's he's doing, but he never blames Nanoha for it. But then this made me think "what if we switched the mascots from other franchises?" I feel like Yuuno and Sailor Moon might be a good fit, he has enough mom energy to motivate Usagi like Luna is, but would be more understandable in the beginning knowing Usagi has no idea what to do.
Oh god the chaos that would be Kero and Nanoha, Kero suggesting bat shit ideas, and Nanoha somehow making it work.
Yuuno reminds of how in Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell there's practical magicians (who can perform magic) and theoretical magicians (who study magic with an academic distance). You can write as many papers as you want about a levitation spell and it's still not gonna make you fly.
Here's my objective ranking of which magical girl mascots should you trust:
Luna: Good parent. Responsible, and holds you to your responsibilities too. Not always the mascot you want, but the mascot you need.
Yuuno: Seems genuinely kind and always makes sure you're okay. Lord know every magical girl could use someone to care about their well-being.
ChuChu: A little dude. Not recommended for anyone who needs guidance, but for those that need a friend.
Kero: (I mean this with all the love in the world) An enabler. Would probably encourage your most self indulgent impulses. Known to "do it for the vine." Not recommended for Usagi.
Kyubey: Zero star rating on Yelp
