birds in the rain, Nancy Richardson

I wanted to depict movement and the flapping of birds in the rain so i researched and found these little birds. This is the Quetzal Bird from the cloud forests of central America its the mystical bird of the Mayans. Unfortunately its an endagered species. This little bird is the national symbol of freedom in Guatemala. I love painting these little birds of such colour and character, so much that I have just started another slightly smaller painting in my studio. The splash of the ink and shine of the epoxy was added to emphasise the gloss of its feathers and the movement and splash of the rain. I hope it brings happiness to the viewer. And maybe memories of visits to central America or even Guatemala.
