So, one would say that the best headcanons come when you are having fun, and indeed I was having a lot of fun here!

I do talk about the Halls here, and in the specific verse this is set here, but where are the souls? Well, we know they tend after the Gardens, they roam the Gardens to find purpose, peace, closure etc, but where do they dwell specifically, when they are not doing all the aforementioned stuff?

The reply came up whilst chatting and it is beautiful, and I think it also adds that je-ne-sais-quois of mystic over the already poignant graveyard vibes that the Halls have.

The souls actually live in lanterns, hung all over the gardens. A regular view and a wintery view here below:

Souls are, broadly speaking, spirits without a bodily form. Because the Halls have a rule that says "only the souls who wish to meet each other will actually meet and if one of the souls is unwilling they will not meet", each soul has their own lantern.

The re-embodiment part, in my headcanons, involves Namo taking the specific lantern, do whatever is the re-embodiment process, and then gift the lantern to the newly-re-embodied Elf to guide them out of the Halls and back into the world of the living.

Perhaps, if you should find an oddly shaped lantern that has that mystic air around it and an hourglass symbol, that Elf has been re-embodied.

Just a couple of objects and tchotchkes Namo keeps on his desk at all times. (I thought it would be something curious/nice to see).
