NAHUM S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 3

SCRIPTURE:
Doom to the crime capital! Nineveh, city of murder and treachery... ~ Nahum 3:1
OBSERVATION:
Not sure if Nahum was in town along with Jonah...
...but it's no wonder Nineveh turned from its sinful ways...
...what with all that gloom and doom coming from both of these guys...
But a quick Googling answered this for me...
Jonah came along first - if reluctantly...
Nahum about a hundred years later...
Which gives me pause to consider how much I may be like Nineveh...
I get the Jonah message...
...turn from my selfish, sinful willfulness...
...for a time...
...and need a Nahum to remind me how far and quickly I've wandered off...
...back to where I was before...
At the same time, God sent these two prophets to the same place, for the same reason, despite its having returned to the same place it was when Jonah first arrived and prophesied...
...and repented...
...giving a second chance...
So, He sent these two men to and for "heathen" idol worshippers way back then...
...but He sent His only Son to and for me...
...and provides the Holy Spirit to remind and strengthen me...
Once was enough in my case...
...though They have to remind me much too often...
APPLICATION:
Don't be a Nineveh!
PRAYER:
Father God - Please forgive my Nineveh-like turning and returning to selfishness and willful, disobedient sinfulness - Thank You for Jesus and the Holy Spirit - for the work of salvation and repentance They continue to do in my life, and for Your undeserved grace and mercy - May I pause in Your strength before acting or reacting in my own interest and seek Your honor first - In Jesus's Name, and for Your praise and glory and worship...
For Him... for you... for yours...
